What is more accurate fbs or ppbs? - Diabetes India
Yes, your FBS is good. 2 hr PPBS should be less than 140 according to several health agencies. So 186 is high. Diet has a direct effect on PPBS value. Please review your diet and if you reduce the carbohydrate contents PPBS will fall. The effect will show from the first meal itself.
PPBS should not exceed 140 mg/dL. Fiber diet assimilates sugar in the blood slowly. Hence it should be preferred.
The national fiber recommendations are 30 to 38 grams a day for men and 25 grams a day for women between 18 and 50 years old, and 21 grams a day if a woman is 51 and older. Another general guideline is to get 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories in your diet.
Sources of insoluble fiber are:--
* whole grain wheat and other whole grains.
* corn bran, including popcorn, unflavored and unsweetened.
* nuts and seeds.
* potatoes and the skins from most fruits from trees such as apples, bananas and avocados.
* many green vegetables such as green beans, zucchini, celery and cauliflower.
Both are important along with HbA1c for clinical evaluation.Reduce portion sizes during bf and include foods with low glycemic value,details of which are available on the net.
