Hi Mango911,

What is the purpose of your question? Are you diabetic and would like to follow low carb vegetarian diets?

In general Indian dals are good sources of protein and full of other nutrients. However, they have a good amount of carbohydrate also. So you have to be careful. Chana dal gives the lowest rise in blood sugar. Similarly sprouted moong is also good for diabetics.

Please let us know what is your goal. I may be able to help you.

Mango911,

Your sugar levels are very high. It is not good for blood sugar to stay at these levels despite medications. My sincere advice is you please make an appointment with your doctor and do the needful to first bring down the Blood sugar to acceptable levels. That should be your top priority.

The doctor will set your target levels and may change medications. Then we will work on your diets. Is your Doctor aware of these numbers? Please provide details of your current diets also.

Carbohydrate contents of most of the Dals are between 56gm and 60gm per 100gm of dry uncooked pulses. Your total carbohydrate intake should be 100gm or less per day. Hope This helps.

Pulses come under low glycemic index (GI range 55 or less).

You are overweight (Body Mass Index: 25.1)

HbA1c - high. Target: 5.7% to 6.5%

Composition for Triglimicure LS Tablet is Glimepiride (1mg), Metformin (500mg), Pioglitazone (7.5mg)

Mar 21, 2016 - A gazette notification by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has banned over 300 medicines of fixed drug combinations.

* fixed dose combination of Glimepiride 1mg/2mg/3mg + Pioglitazone 15mg/15mg/15mg + Metformin 1000mg/1000mg/1000mg

* fixed dose combination of Glimepiride 1mg/2mg+ Pioglitazone 15mg/15mg + Metformin 850mg/850mg

* fixed dose combination of Metformin 850mg + Pioglitazone 7.5 mg + Glimepiride 2mg

* fixed dose combination of Metformin 850mg + Pioglitazone 7.5 mg + Glimepiride 1mg

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

Glimepiride is used along with diet and exercise, and sometimes with other medications, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce insulin (a natural substance that is needed to break down sugar in the body) and helping the body use insulin efficiently. This medication will only help lower blood sugar in people whose bodies produce insulin naturally.

Formulations containing all three drugs are also available in the market. Jha advocates banning the three drug formulation. 'It puts the patient at a tremendous risk of heart failure,' he says. Annual sales of fixed-dose combinations of pioglitazone with metformin and glimepiride are around INR 5 billion.

Composition for Zita Plus Tablet is Teneligliptin (20mg).

Side effects of Teneligliptin: Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting. These could be symptoms of pancreatitis. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe joint pain.

gangadharan_nair, I like the fact that you patiently help to support by explaining about diabetes, metformin, etc. to every new person who joins this forum. It also becomes a recap of knowledge for me and thank you for that.

Sir thanks for the information but i am a vegetarian what should i eat to fulfill the protein ?

DiabetesDestroyer profile image
DiabetesDestroyerStar in reply tomango911

Sprouted dals and beans are lower in carb, because the sprout has used up some of the carb, I could not find any resource giving exact amount of carb in sprouts because it depends on length of sprouting, type of dal, etc.

The other option is paneer and unprocessed cheese.

Lentils and beans are considered good carbs because they have about 20% protein. But they are not considered good protein because they have about 45% carbs after deducting the soluble fiber. So if you are eating dals and beans, do remember that you are ingesting good amount of carbs. How much carb you need, how much is your carb tolerance, is very individual. Use an app such as Myfitnesspal to count your carb intake and ,maintain it within your prescribed allowance.

Dear Sir. Gangadharan Nair, thanks for very useful information about the combination of Metformin, Glemiperide and pioglitazone. I have been reading your posts with great interest, you have been giving very clear and important points. Thank you.

One must stop all grains, pulses and fruits when planning on LCHF diet. Take loads of greens, low carb veggies like cauliflowers, broccoli, zucchini, cabbages, capsicums etc. Yes besan, black grams, etc are ok ...in fact I use kala chana flour for chapattis. As for proteins, firstly too much proteins will not be good for kidney health at this stage, secondly you get enough proteins from nuts, occ cottage cheese etc. In LCHF, what I know is that 50%calories should be from fats and only 25%from carbs and proteins resp. So rt now focus only on reducing carb intake, everything else will automatically fall in place!

Good luck! Its not so difficult. In Jan17 I was 16.4, in Nov17 I was 6.3 (Hba1c). Without medicine, only LCHF and lifestyle modifications.

😊

They have about 40 to 50% carb. Moong dal has lower carb. If you sprout them, the carb content goes down. Sprouted moong has only 5% carb. You can also try defatted soya nuggets, which has high protein and has 39% carb, and is easily available in India.
