I went to Activity2004's page and saw her post about Dexcom. Its something new I've learned today. I did not know you can do continuous monitoring of blood glucose levels! I wonder when it will be available in India at some reasonable price? Here health insurance does not cover so many expenses that often the co-pay is higher than the amounts they reimburse to us.

Dexcom - something new to me
Hi suryakaizen ,
Thank you for checking out the information I've posted about the DEXCOM system. I will do an updated posting very soon on DRWF for HU.
I will send you a private message very soon. Please look for it. It's okay!
Please check your private messages, suryakaizen . I sent the note now.
Dexcom CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) cost Rs. 99324/- approximately. You have to pay extra amount to purchase consumables such as battery.
The cost of Insulin pump is also very high. (Rs. 3,52,440/-)

Wow! Thank you gangadharan_nair. It’s going to be a long while before the average diabetic Indian can afford that.
Hidden ,
Some insurance companies do cover part of the DEXCOM system-- but it has to be after the co-pay and deductable is used up.
FOR INFO: Please check this product introduced in the UK:
freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/...
The starter pack comes with two sensors and one Scanner(reader). The sensor monitors the blood glucose every 15mts and stores the data. It can store maximum eight-hour data. You have to scan at least once every eight hours to get the full data which can be downloaded on your computer.
The sensor is disposable after 14 days of use. The starter pack ( 2 sensors + 1 scanner) cost £160.00 in the UK. After that, you have to buy additional sensors if you want to use it on regular basis. Each sensor costs £58.00. That is the monthly cost of £116.00.
As compared the more conventional CGM, it does not give an alarm in case of hypo.
One benefit is that it does not require frequent calibration like conventional CGM.
To my knowledge, this is the only sensor available in the market as an alternative to the more conventional CGM.
If a person isn't able to know when they are dropping, then they need to get the DEXCOM since the DEXCOM does alarm for lows and highs, Praveen55 .
Yes, I agree. That is one of the main limitations of the freestylelibre sensor.
It is more suitable for someone who needs to monitor BG levels very frequently who are not at risk of Hypo. It does not involve pricking and it can monitor overnight. And above all, it may be somewhat affordable.
It cannot replace the conventional CGM, I should have mentioned that in the first place. Thanks for bringing it out.
Activity2004 While Freestyle Libre Pro is a FGM and not a CGM and cannot subsitute a Dexcom, it has features and functions extended to provide some of Dexcom's features and often that involves using an opensource app called GLIMP with FreestyleLibre pro and then enabling a CGM like feature using something called NIGHTSCOUT on the app. I have used Glimp extensively, instead of the abbott reader and instead of waiting for data forever and read about these developments then. Just wanted to let you know of it, in case you are not aware.
What about EPIC APP, which senses glucose level , just by touching the smart phone
