About Metformin
Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.
Reduction of anti-diabetic medicine may adversely affect your blood sugar levels. Hence the same should be done with caution and with the consultation of your doctor.

But that's a bit vague question... why would you want to reduce metformin dosage... hope you started it under medical supervision.. so best would be to consult your doctor.. good luck 😊
Abrupt drop in blood sugar
My guess on 'WHY THEY WANT TO REDUCE THE DOSAGE".
(a) Higher dosage hurts the stomach and causes acidity
(b) There are reports out there that describes (with specific proven pointers) that METFORMIN is harmful in the long run.
I did reduce METFORMIN for the above reasons few years ago when I was advised.
I am now on full LCHF and avoid as much as possible.
I dont claim that I am super guy to be that rigid in every thing.
On and off, I do stray and tend to go out of some control....But I keep a constant watch by testing at least twice a day.
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
