BangaloreMate Spirulina is suppose to be good source of B12.However there is debate many ppl say body cannot use Vit B 12 from Spirulina and it is pseudo b12 which blocks the real B 12 receptors.

Some time ago there was debate in forum on above subject...you may search the links for the same thru search option.

I guess one of our member Mr Hidden is using same...he will be able to comment on same.

"Spirulina is one of the oldest life forms on Earth. In fact, this blue-green microalgae is partly responsible for producing the oxygen in the planet's atmosphere that billions of years ago allowed the planet's originating life forms to develop. Spirulina is the world's first superfood, and one of the most nutrient-rich foods on Earth.

Spirulina has between 55 and 70% protein (more than beef, chicken, and soybeans), 8 essential and 10 non-essential amino acids, as well as high levels of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), beta-carotene, linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, phosphorus, nucleic acids RNA & DNA, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin, a pigment-protein complex that is found only in blue-green algae. "

Spirulina is really good.

hmmmm well there is no relation of Spirulina tablets with Ayurveda.

Ayurveda never mentions about Spirulina tablets.

It is the manufacturing process of Spirulina which makes it contaminated or otherwise.

Spirulina is known to absorb lead from surrounding...

Spirluina are aquatic organisms, typically inhabiting freshwater alkaline lakes. However, there are marine species as well. They are mesophilic, and able to survive over a wide range of temperatures; some species are even found in hot springs. Spriulina is an edible bacteria. Flamingos get their pink color from eating Spirulina that contain phycoythrin . Humans also eat this bacteria. It is known that the Aztecs consumed it regularly, and it may be an important dietary element in tropical areas. It is also used in Asian cusine. In America, Spirulina is sold in health food stores as a powder or tablet. In Russia, it was approved to treat symptoms of radiation sickness after Chernobyl, because the carotenoids they contain absorb radiation. Evidence shows that it is capable of stopping viral replication. It prevents the virus from penetrating a cell wall and infecting the cell. Spirulina also increase the production of cytokines. This benefit comes from the antioxidants present within the organisms. Spirulina are an excellent source of both protein and iron, and are useful in the treatment of anemia. They can also act as a food source for intestinal flora such as Lactobacillus and Bifidus. Research by Wang et. al. (2005) that this bacteria also slows neurological damage in aging animals, and notes that it can lessen the damage caused by stroke. Studies also show that Spirulina can prevent the release of histamines, treating allergy symptoms. Spriulina has nonmedical uses as well. A study by Chen and Pan (2005) shows that the bacteria can remove low concentrations of lead from wastewater. Research by da Costa and de Franca (2003) illustrates that Spirulina is also capable of removing cadmium

Also..the temperature maintained during manufacturing process....I don't remember the exact temperature required to be maintained...but if that is not maintained then Spirulina may get contaminated with other cyanobacteria...

As bhai suramo suggested it is good source of proteins and amino acids..

Plz check the source before buying...

Ayu products many times contain heavy metals. Never consider any ayu safe because it's ayu and not allopathy. Recently i purchased patanjali aloe vera juice with fibres contain sorbitol. This sorbitol is 80% absorbed mostly converted to fructose. We are likely to make mistake considering that aloe vera juice as ayu and so beneficial 🐒🐒

Yes Bhai suramo you are 100% true.

Initially ayurveda was all herbal...but after invention of 'Ras Shastra'(Ras=mercury, shastra=science ) they started experimenting with mercury and various metals like lead etc.

I don't know how far the purification process of same is acceptable by modern science...and effects of same on human being...

But now days no one is following those purification process strictly owing to time constraints ..economy.Many times herbs described in scriptures are no more available.

To name few... Arogyavardhini vati...mercury is used as ingredient.. or Makardhwaj...

Therefore,I always go for herbs only.

Also try to procure whole herb in fresh or dried form....never go for juices as they are added with some sort of preservatives..

Just as Amala Juice..I get amala powder and then mix it in warm water and consume.

Aloe vera i have taken as fresh herb. Not easy to swallow for many days. Ayu medicines are not popular amongst people because of bad taste, nonavailability of pure herbs and we have to prepare concoctions etc. Very cumbersome.

I have taken spirulina for a year now

Used to import initally from eBay. Nutrex Hawaii brand

Laterswitched to Indian brand from South named aurospirul

I stopped after reading that it has pseudo b12

As it is I am taking metformin 250 bid which also impairs b12 absorption

So stopped it

But it has helped me nutritionally in the initial stage

Now I believe that I am on a good micro nutrients balanced LCHF diet

So don't need it now

Thanks @Cure for tagging me

I have been taking spirulina for 5 years since 2012. News about Pseudo b12 are wrong. Take 4 grams / day of spirulina and you wont face any issues related to health and if you continue taking for 4-6 months regularly, you will start seeing a drop in sugar levels. To prevent constipation and to enhance our health, I suggest taking spirulina with chlorella ( 4 gms spirulina, 8 gms chlorella) with 1-2 tbsp honey, lemon/apple cider vinegar and water. Spirulina and chlorella both have a peculiar aftertaste ( in powder form) and hence honey and lemon helps balance the taste along with increasing nutritional value.

To prevent metal toxicity, always buy only organic spirulina and organic chlorella. They check metal levels before shipping the product batch.

Everyone with diabetes or cancer or heart related issues should consider taking organic spirulina powder and organic chlorella powder. However if you have any autoimmune diseases ( celiac etc), you should refrain from taking these powders as they boost your immunity a lot due to high chlorophyll content. Other than that, its good for weight loss, weight gain, building vitamin levels, detox, lung disorders, blood pressure, cholesterol etc.

If you feel sluggish/sleepy in afternoon - taking it in above doses for 10-12 days will make you feel super energetic. If you are unable to get good sleep, take it 2 hours after dinner or just before bedtime and give it 7-10 days. I used to have both of these issues and they are entirely gone. Spirulina and chlorella give you lots of energy, focused mind and positive spirit which reminds me it helped a friend of mine come out of depression/suicidal thoughts in 5 months of taking it. There is a reason why athletes and sports stars are increasingly taking these two for their training and during games.

Best time to take spirulina and chlorella combined is morning on an empty stomach. Dont eat or have breakfast for 40 mins after taking it. Though you can take it before or after meals too if you like. Empty stomach will give you faster results.
