Metformin
No, Metformin makes cells sensitive to the action if insulin. Exogenous insulin promotes weight gain as it's the storage hormone.
I take it the pigmentation to be acanthosis nigricans: characterised by dark patches on the neck, arms, groin ankles etc. This is a feature of insulin resistance, obesity and T2 diabetes particularly, although there are other causes.
I would suggest that relying on Metformin to control T2 is ultimately doomed to failure as it's effect reduces over time and dosage increases to compensate.
Most T2 see the condition as just something to be coped with - keep the diet the same whilst swallowing a pill. This would be the diet that caused the condition in the first place. Unless the diet; overwhelmingly carbohydrate - which sends blood sugar and insulin skywards, is changed then the disease is on an unstoppable downwards slope.
No. It is weight neutral. My doctor stopped metformin when there was drop in my weight to avoid further weight loss.
