I am 72 and recently (three month back) diagnosed diabetic -blood sugar 140 /185 . my doctor advised me jalra m 50 /1000 . still I have not started, depending upon diet control and walking . Not much effect .... maintaining the same . Should I start medicine . -ram

if you are walking for 45 minute daily and upon diet control you should start with metformin 500 mg with lunch and than too if your blood sugar does not reduce another 500 mg dose should be taken with dinner. you should start medicine immediately. it is bad that you have not started any medicine yet.

What is your HbA1c reading?Better you get this test done.The result will help you to come to a decision.

An adjustment in diet and some physical activity,give it a trial for at least a month and see the results, then decide what to do. If you smoke, quit it and if obese, reduce your weight.
