Fasting : 10 hours after dinner

PP: 2 hours after meal

Sir, the lab technicians told me to check PP, we should come to the lab between one and half hour to 2 hrs. after breakfast. Is that right?

FBS - ~10 hrs after last meal.

PPBS: 110-120 minutes after first bite.

Monitor PPBS more aggressively if you are an early diabetic. FBS will go bad when everything else wrt sugar control has gone bad. We don't care what so called bodies say about PPBS Vs FBS about diabetes. We use our head based on what diabetics who self manage diabetes say and do.

Those who aggressively monitor their diabetes also check 1 hr levels and aim for < 140 at 1 Hr and < 120 at 2 hr. Those who follow ADA manuals stay happy with < 180. ADA numbers are dangerous in long term.

For fasting ten hours after dinner. You should understand the basic kinetics of glucose abosrption on digestion of carbohydrate containg food, including break fast, lunch and dinner.every time you take carbohydrate containing food , oberserved kintetics in laboratory condition is tested for glucose for first 10,minutes,followed by 20, 30,45,60,75,90,110,120.

The values are plotted on graph sheet with x-axis time scale and y-axis glucose values.

In normal persons fasting would around 80-100mg/dl as time progress the values goes on increasing up reaching maximum values 140-160 ,30-45 minutes and values goes decreasing and normal by 110-120 minutes it will be just above fasting or would be around110-120mg/dl up to 120-140 are tolerated. I am giving this trend for normal healthy individual. This basic Kinetics that should in our mind. After gap two hours the values goes on decrasong slowly gradualy such way that glucose values tend to reach 75-80mg/dl indicating status of hunger. Again food is taken for lunch the kinetics appear. Any intremediate in take food causes spike in glucose kinetics. Please note all cokinetics with insulin. The moment glucose touches beta cells insulin is secreted in proportion to glucose levels.

In general fasting ten hours( I have deliberate avoided what happens in night physiology, to prevent cofusion)night sleep and 120 minutes after break fast is recommended for convenience. But if you have glucometer check six times once ten days, these are fasting ,post break fast, prelunch, post lunch, post lunch, predinner, post dinner. This give very good idea of you glucose kinetics and get good control of carbohydrate in take and medication excersise.
