I am 47 years old. I am diabetic for almost ten years. My fasting sugar never come down less than 170 - 180 & after food it shoots between 260 - 280. I am also having high blood pressure. I am taking Glimmer 2mg morning & evening, Galvus met 1000/50 morning evening, Vobit 0.3 morning & evening for sugar & Losar H for pressure. Also I am taking insulin 15 units morning & 18 units evening before food. I tried changing doctors, no use. tried strict control on food, no use. I am reading lot about diabetic food etc. which I cant understand as these foods for western people. My uncontrolled sugar is showing effect on my body, my vision is getting blurred, effecting my sex life, lack of concentration in work, fatigue & lack of sleep. My fellow readers, Please suggest if you can help me. I need genuine suggestion which can help me to control my medical condition.

Thanks

Weight reduction with diet

* Avoid single high concentrated meals.

* Small frequent meals.

* Food high in fibre content like vegetables, whole pulses, fruits, etc.

Ideal combination of diabetic diet should be:--

Carbohydrates: 55-60%.

Fat: 30%.

Proteins: 15-20% (0.8g /kg /body wt).

Fibres 40 g/day.

DIABETIC DIET

Do not eat at all:--

Sugar, jam, syrups, honey, sweets, chocolates, fruit juices, ice creams, cold drinks, glucose drinks, cakes and pastries, sweet biscuits, puddings

and protein powder with sugar.

Eat in moderation:--

Bread, chapatis, oat porridge, cornflakes (No sugar), Cheese, butter, Noodles or spaghetti, macroni, Thick soups, Milk & milk products, Chicken,

lean meat, fish.

Take unrestricted:--

* Salads (cucumber, tomato, onion, raddish, salad leaves).

* Vegetables (cabbage, baigan, lady fingers, french beans, methi, palak).

* Fruits (except banana, chockoo or mangoes).

* Sprouted beans and pulses.

* Marie biscuit (with less sugar).

* Clear soups, Lemon juice, Buttermilk

Fasting blood sugar should be less than 100 mg/dL and post-prandial blood sugar less than 140 mg/dL.

Diabetic medications can control diabetes only 50%. You should control the other 50% of diabetes by diet and medications.

Undergo HbA1c test once in every 3 months.

I control my blood sugar by checking FBS daily and avoiding foods that cause elevated blood sugar. My diabetes was diagnosed in 1990. I have no diabetic complications so far. (Except some minor complaints)

There is no easy solution to your problems. Having said that I emphasise that no need to despair.

Let us start with some basics. Firstly get your thyroid, liver and kidney throughly investigated.

Secondly,get your diet correct . Stop eating bread,idli,dosa etc,stop all fruits,replace milk with curd ( full cream ). No sweet potato ,Maggie etc.

Add in your diet,various types of sprout,cheese, butter,paneer,desi ghee,a lot of green vegetables,mushroom etc. Stop all veg.which grow below soil. List is endless,so please modify your diet as per your tradition ,taste and availability.

As far as excercise and walking is concerned,let us do it in a different way.where ever you are , office or at home, try to do your work as far as possible, do it standing and after every 1/2 an hour take a walk for a few minutes. Secondly, when ever you get time ,even inside your room at home or in office, run or walk as fast as possible for 30 secs and rest for 5 mins. Repeat it several times and a few times every day.

Last thing please take light snack at about 10 pm or before going to bed.

Good luck.

You must consult diabetalogist and must take insulin shots thrice a day with strict diet control and walking for 30 to 40 minutes without fail daily. Latest insulin long acting works for 24hours and one shot is enough for a day. After 3 months you must take hba1c results and see the improvements with the one immediately taken now.
