I am 75 years of age. I am diabetec. I take Glyciphage 500mg ( 1-1/2-1 ) and Glypride 1mg ( 1/2-1/2-1/2 ) under doctor's advice. With this medication and proper diet my sugar levels are well under control. However, lately once in 3-4 months I start getting frequent hypoglycemia. Under this condition, glypride is gradually reduced to nil in about 20 days. With only glyciphage ( 1-1/2-1 ) alone my sugar level remains perfect. This condition continues for about 3 months and then the sugar levels start increasing again requiring me to resume glypride as per above dose. In about 3 months, I again start getting frequent hypoglycemia. I stop glypride and remain OK with Glyciphage only. This cycle repeats.

Is the above condition normal with a diabetic person? Or does it equire any special treatment. Kindly inform.

In Diabetes it is common problem . To avoid emergency of hypoglycemia you must carry few sugar/biscuits with you so that you can take them as early as possible. mostly hypoglycemia comes in evening /early morning, so you may take tea with low sugar to avoid it. remain stick to Drugs.
