I eat Long wheat for breakfast since three months and find the results quite encouraging. This was suggested by one of our learned bloggers,SHOOTERGEORGE.He had a very positive experience with Long Wheat diet and he also shared extensive personal record about this on this web site.I find it quite good for breakfast and hope to continue in future too.

You had it only for break fast? Not as dinner aslo? What else you were taking along with it? Please share it.

in reply to swamyonline

For dinner I eat one chapathi, boiled mixed sprouts, vegetable dishes and some curd. For lunch also same food but vhapathi is replaced with one serving of rice.I have restricted Long wheat only for breakfast because my current A1c is 5.8 and I hope to reduce my medication gradually.Still trial and error approach is going on

in reply to tejkumar

For breakfast I make upma(a common south Indian breakfast snack) and eat it with some roasted almond pieces.Or I make porridge by cooking in vaccum for up to ten whistles and then blending in a mixie. You can innovate as you go along as the dishes are very simple and tasty also.I buy long wheat from Nilgiri's, a very reliable store in Bangalore.

I dont know about the benefits from LONG WHEAT .... But i would like to tell you that it is called 'JAVI' and can be easily found at any seed shop in PUNJAB.

One of the main suppliers of broken suchi wheat in Kerala and Madras is NIRAPARA. prtoduced by K K R Flour Mills,Kaladi Ernakulam Dist, 683550. email kkmills@md4.vsnl.net.in

It is available in open market. I am using it since last 1 month by seeing the report of shooter George.

It's called Sambha wheat or Samba wheat which corresponds with the Emmer strain of wheat found in other countries. It's considered a common type of wheat in India and grown in the southern part of the country.  So far, I've only found the broken or cracked form but it's still long [= Sambha] wheat.  Other people are reporting names like Javi, Suchi wheat, Jau or Joo, Dalia, etc.

Thanks for clarifying..... can you please confirm that Samba wheat doesn't contain gluten because emmer wheat is gluten free

The long wheat is generally known as jau in hindi and available with grain dealer dalia is made of wheat and jau also dalia is supplied by Baba ram dev shops which r made of five to six grains which is also good for diabeties.i take white oats which is made of jau(jo) and also take corn flakes without any coatings.these r fat free and no cholestrol.

this being taken at breakfast time only.

How to make dish of jau for breakfast? Can any one suggest me please?

bbbhandari profile image

Sir, when you write wheat, it is WHEAT from where maida, flour, sooji are prepared. For what u r referring to as long wheat it is only Barley/jau in hindi.

kksharma profile image
kksharma

yes barely and jau in hindi

634shy profile image
634shy in reply to kksharma

Barley and Jau is same thing, I guess this wheat is called either jau or javi wheat, this is my understanding from the posts. It's definitely not jau/barley. The other reason it could be called jau wheat which is jau gahoon or jau kanak could be when it's in husk it looks long and jau were used to look like that while in husk that's my memory from 33 years ago.I don't know how many barley kinds are available now. Also back then there was used to be only two kinds of wheats in Punjab one small and lighter and one reddish and longer and was used to be called mexican kank (ghehoon). In past 30 some years who knows what Punjab have now and we never did farming but I always found this kind of stuff interesting, this could be the reason that I have old but still fresh memories of crops.

Jau usually comes along with the cover(husk). Is it to be taken along with the cover or you only eat the inner wheat?

ShooterGeorge profile image
ShooterGeorge in reply to sukhram

You have to remove Husk or buy that which does not have Husk (husk removed). Please click on the photos at these sections of my article

Hi dear, just clicked on the different languages and noticed that ghehoon/wheat is translated as Kamak. It should read Kanak with n not with m. I'm trying to get more info on it here in Canada.

Sir, the photograph of the thing that I bought & ate from 2006 to 2009 is given at healthunlocked.com/diabetes... and the photo of a thing another one bought this month in Hyderabad is at healthunlocked.com/diabetes...

Please see whether this is what you mean by Barley/Jau. Please report your valuable finding for the benefit of others, to clarify their doubts/confusions.

634shy in reply to sukhram

Make sure it's not Barley as in hindi barley is called jau/jaun. This wheat may be called jau wheat. Make sure whatever you have is not barley. Barley is a totally different grain.

Samba rava is available in pockets in Tamil Nadu. whether we can use it.

in reply to jaisinghk1

Samba rava is broken wheat; do not use! Long wheat is Samba wheat (unbroken).

in reply to

I do not see how cracked sambha wheat is different in essence from uncracked sambha wheat except for the physical appearance.  Please explain. Thanks.

Hi ShooterGeorge, as described under different names, I'm able to find organic emmer wheat from a BC farm. I just want to confirm if it's emmer that means would it be long wheat as it is quite expensive here 5 kg for 22 dollars and delivery is 20 dollars so the total cost is 42 dollars for 5 kg. Also under the different names you have typed kamak, gehoon (wheat) is called kanak in Punjabi with an n not with m. Thanks

As suggested by Mr. Shooter George, I am taking Long wheat diet for the last three months. The results are very much encouraging. The first month itself the blood sugar level came down nearer to normal. Continuously for the last three months the blood sugar level is normal. Still I am continuing the long wheat diet and the homeopathic medicines. Next month I am planning to discontinue the long wheat diet and to reduce the medicines step by step and to watch the blood sugar levels.

Hi ShooterGeorge, still no luck finding this wheat in Canada. The closest I found is hard wheat which is same color as long wheat but the size is same as normal wheat, not as long as the long wheat. I called my relative in Punjab who is the middle man between crops and shops and had never heard "Javi" as some other member mentioned what he found in seed shops in Punjab which is long wheat. If I get lucky to find it in Punjab, would it be okay to get it cracked all at once because the customs might not let the whole seed pass through security. I really want to try it but not having much luck here in Canada. Even if I can get some from India then the problem is still there as one can not carry a whole suitcase full of wheat. Ramdev opned two shops in Toronto, I will check may be he has the pure long wheat itself. Thanks

Thanks for the link. I just sent an email to Alberta farm and will try and see if it's same. If not then even if I can find in Punjab, I'll have all my friends and relatives bring it for me. I have a lot of relatives coming this year end.

Hi ShooterGeorge, I missed the call from the farmer from Alberta who has red fife wheat but I wanted to ask him how it looks. I left a message again. I checked shops in Toronto with no luck. I've not gone to Baba Ramdev store not sure if they have any of that. But about your comment about the husk being removed, not considered seed is not correct. The husk is removed before the wheat is sprinkled in the soil, being from Punjab, I'm sure about that.

634shy profile image
634shy

Yes ShooterGeorge, that's where I noticed that you have (18 Punjabi Punjab India Javi Kamak?? ) "javi" as a kind of wheat and then kamak?? which I'm 100% sure should be Kanak, that's what we call wheat in Punjabi. Oh, I'm in the process of contacting a couple of farmers here in alberta and bc none so far in Ontairo, their website shows they provide emmer wheat which is same as ferro in Italy, considered as the oldest wheat like around 8000 years old and yes it does have different properties than the newer kinds.

634shy profile image
634shy

I spoke with the farmer from Alberta today and he sent me a picture which I'll try to attach. Does not look exactly like yours but he said it is emmer and the climate makes a differnce in each crop's color. I heard a store in Toronto sells it and will see if I can go there and check it out. As I was talking to the farmer it came out that the emmer unlike other varieties is sowed while in the hull or husk. But still I think the customs will raise their eyebrows.
