I have been on LW breakfast regularly for about three months. Experience has been good.At the end of june during my annual review,fbs was 117 and ppbs 113 after LW breakfast and the A1c was 6.7.Important point is if you do not eat mid morning snack,there is a good chance of hypo by about 1.00pm.So the doctor reduced insulin dose from 20 to 16 in the morning.I consider it quite effective.Planning to replace dinner rotis with LW upma or some thing suitable.
Ramana 42 can u share the nutritional value of LW i think u are get some benefited with LW Can u share your previous readings . Any lipid profile changes ? I think DM from recently? Also insulin user ?
My A1c reading used fluctuate around 6.5 even after I switched to insulin.But my problem has always been fbs of around 150 and ppbs of above 180.But a1c reading went to 7.1in the last week of mar 2015.My insulin morning dose was increased from 18 to 20 units.Immediately I started regular use of LW for breakfast without exception.I used to get hypo before lunch if I missed mid morning snack or when ever I did some physical work like washing my car.The home monitoring results during the april,may and june were within range and A1c at the end of june was 6.7.The doctor reduced my morning dose to 16 units from 20 and the evening dose of 10 is continued.Considering the fact I am now running 74,I am satisfied with the result.
I came to know that GI value of LW is 42 from this forum and that is quite low as compared to normal wheat and other cereals.Also,from what I understand,LW is an ancient variety of wheat that has not gone through any research and modification.Moreover, it is a natural item of diet without any known side effects.Also,I read some where that there is what is called "super starch" that is normal in all respects except that it tougher to digest.Maybe,something like that is present in LW.Whatever it is,it is definitely giving me good control and so I consider it effective.
ramana 42 take it easy as your age is 74 with insulin it was also not bad. Be cool age factor is one of the reason U already known how to make diet control

Also Mr. Kashmir Singh could not get it in Punjab. We need more inputs from North based members. I understand it grows mostly in South Maharashtra and now started in Gujarat. Pls ask your suppliers where they source it from and if new crop came. Right now old stock is over in Pune and there is no new stock yet as per my suppliers.
" norreal zeusinus: I too think it is between Jau and jawar. (Jau is probably barley, an item we mix with genetically manipulated wheat. Jowar is Oat). Mixing hau with wheat atta reduces its starchiness. Further, before eating I make it crisp in the oven. Could it be a variety of wheat?

Member kashigari: The shopkeeper of shop where i purchased long wheat, when asked about it's name, he said it is called as makka gehun(check with this name in your area). Whatever i purchased matches with those grains shown in pic of SG. And i purchased it in a store where one of our community member purchases(In hyderabad). So i am confident.
