Better depend on your doctor's recommendation.

This is another long acting or basal insulin analogue with longer duration of action than Glargine Insulin. It is truly a once daily insulin. This can be taken once in 24 hr but with a little flexibility of timings.

Hi, Tresiba Insulin will be launched only by this year end to be taken only under specialist

prescription. For more details :

You can read the below Hindu News on this subject matter from Mumbai issue 2nd.Sept.'13.

Danish pharmaceutical major Novo Nordisk, on Monday, said it would soon launch its insulin injection Tresiba (insulin degludec) in India.

Novo Nordisk is the leading manufacturer of insulin in the world, and Tresiba, the new basal insulin, is used for the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

The once-daily use medicine has a duration of action beyond 42 hours, and allows flexibility in daily dosing time without reducing efficacy , Melvin D’Souza, Managing Director, Novo Nordisk India, said, while addressing a media conference here. “Tresiba will be launched towards the end of the year, and the price of the product will be announced closer to the launch date,” he said.

Novo Nordisk India has 15 per cent share in the diabetes care market with a significant share in insulin, and is hopeful of growing at 15 per cent per annum, Mr. D’Souza added. Tresiba will be made available in FlexTouch, a pre-filled pen with an easy touch button, enabling doses of up to 80 units in a single injection.

Novo Nordisk ties up with IAD

In a bid to provide doctors access to updated and scientific information on insulin therapy, Novo Nordisk has tied up with Indian Academy of Diabetes (IAD) to launch a massive doctor education programme – Master Class in Insulin.

India has 65 million diabetes patients and 130 million pre-diabetes patients, said Dr. Shashank Joshi, President, IAD. “Yet, only 6 million receive appropriate treatment.

The programme will use the peer-to-peer model where the focus will be on engaging national leaders who are pioneers in ‘insulinology’ and ‘diabetology’, and these doctors will further train 1,000 primary care physicians across the country.”

Mr SG , 42 hrs insulin means one can inject safely 3days once. The price will be announced

during launch of the product. I am having tbs max 104 without insulin dose and let me check after a few more days then i will stop insulin. The range is 83 to 86 but when i stopped insulin it shot up to 104. Or can i reduce the dose the dose 18 to 12 units and see the results. Pls reply.

Dear Ranga sir,

My brother was here for two days, as I could not visit home town for last 1.5 years & I could not log in then. Sorry for the delay in responding.

Sir, dsengupta above writes that this is a once-daily insulin; that means 24 hours with a-little flexibility. If it is to be once in three days, it has to be 72 hours. 42 hrs does not fit any where in these!

For you or anybody tablets may be better due to ease of administration. For Pancreas, insulin injection is better than tablets; for a cure also. This is because tabs make the weak Pancreas do over-work where as insulin does not & in fact relieves pancreas from even normal work, if dosage is more. Hence I would suggest adjusting insulin dose than switching to tabs.

Do not jump to 12 from 18; go in smaller steps like 1-2 at a time & allow 3-4 days for the body to adjust/stabilise with the reduced dose.

After hitting a steady state, reduce again. Proverb says "slow & steady wins the race" & I say HASTE CAUSE WASTE.

Thank you Mr.SG . Leaving drinks for 3months itself gives me lower BS 83 to max 110 fbs.Anyway I will continue the medicines and reduce the insulin dose by 1 per week.

Here long wheat is not available which I will do in next two weeks after reaching India.
