I red this interesting article vie email from Healthline.

If the below link does not work as it is very long please do a search.

healthline.com/health/diabe...

" Diabetes pills vs. insulin

It’s usually not a case of either pills or insulin. Your doctor will make a recommendation based on the type of diabetes you have, how long you’ve had it, and how much insulin you’re making naturally.

Pills may be easier to take than insulin, but each kind comes with potential side effects. It may take a little trial and error to find the one that works best for you. Pills can stop working even if they’ve been effective for some time.

If you start out with only pills and your type 2 diabetes worsens, you may need to use insulin as well.

Insulin also has risks. Too much or too little can cause serious problems. You’ll have to learn how to monitor your diabetes and make adjustments as necessary."

take care.

Thank you for your response.

Are you taking both pills and insulin?

You insulin, fixed dosage or you have to calculate daily?

Thank you.

No I started lantus with 25 units and actarapid morning before breakfast 10 units for couple of years 2014 onwards. Now Lantus 30 units and actarapid 20 units as regularly testing and consulting the doctor. I take Istamat 50/500 plus Gemer 2mg morning one night one each. Sugar levels BF 125 and after 2 hours it is 185. Doctor says it is OK as I am 69 years old person.

Sir,

Thank you for your response.

My understanding is as we age blood test numbers do go up. My wife is 4 years younger then me and now she is finding out that here blood test numbers are going up !!

Before, I get told I am not taking care of my health. Now we have to look after our health together.

I am 74 next month. I am controlling my blood test numbers by food and drinks intake control, so far no medication but I have done a lot of research work on type 2 control and medication.

My next blood test is at the end on the month, I also have eye test and foot check, all these tests are done annually. Only time will tell.

Take care.

Insulin therapy may be considered if your HbA1c is greater than 10%.

I started my insulin therapy when I am diagnosed with liver disease several years ago.

I found the below information very interesting when I went to read the second link.!

" The mean HbA1c for diabetics type 1 in Sweden in 2014 was 63 mmol/mol (7.9 DCCT%) and for type 2, 61 mmol/mol (7.7 DCCT%).[35] "

My question is where are we today in 2020 for HbA1c for type 2.?

Hi,

There are many medical family and friends. Their believe is to take medication for type 2 and cholesterol but I am different. I can say no to sugary food !!

Enjoying one life is important. Depending upon the age we have to do yearly testing for blood glucose, eyes and foot checks.

In ,UK many people have gone through weight loss program and come out of medication.

Take care, all the best for your sister.
