There is nothing wrong with Pioglitazone unless you are a female past 45 yrs or suffering from Heart Failure, neither Acarbose or other AGIs are "ineffective" if taken in right dose.If you are overweight you may prefer Acarbose or iother AGIs like Voglibose as they are weight neutral vs Pioglitazone which causes weight gain.
