Diabetes expert Dr Jason Fung recommends acarbose ( Glucobay) for type 2 diabetes but this medicine by Bayer is NOT sold in europe.

My orthostatic and postprandial hypotensions: I have continued to study Acarbose. The words Acarbose and Pharmacokinetics are useful. What Acarbose does is redistribute when sugar is released.

All of the patients were treated with the diabetes drug acarbose, which helps transform starch into fiber. For the first four weeks, hemoglobin A1c, a measure of blood sugar, fell in both groups.

I now treat my hypo's with prescription drugs that slow the sugar intake into the lower gut (Acarbose). Since starting this, and measuring my blood sugar levels, I have managed to avoid any collapse.

This is under control with drugs (Acarbose) and a careful very low sugar diet. I also check my blood glucose levels on regular daily basis. This has ensured no repeats of my previous collapses and bouts of unconsciousness. Now here is the problem that I want to understand.

Haward how do you get on with acarbose ? Do you still take it ?  And gutless ,I know you have a grasp of these things ,I've read your posts .It all seems so complicated ,my feeling is that I don't want to further complicate things by adding this drug to the mix .

I had forgotten to take my Acarbose Tablet before lunch and had eaten some biscuits (I know). My wife was with me when I went down and was able to get an ambulance as I was fitting (violent shaking & bit through my tongue). I recovered within 15 minutes and did not require hospital.

Some clinically proven supplements reduce carbohydrate absorption except glucose and fructose - since the area under the curve = AUC of glucose after ingesting carbs other than simple sugars is reduced by the now much less prescribed antidiabetic drug Acarbose, an Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor.
