Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.
Gliclazide is an oral hypoglycemic (anti-diabetic drug) and is classified as a sulfonylurea. (2nd generation).
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease and hence you have to take the anti-diabetic medication till the rest rest of your life.
It is surprising that in a matter of 5 months your blood sugar level has shot up so steeply.Unfortunately, once you are a diabetic,it is possible that you will have to be careful through out your life as otherwise, diabetic conditions may recur at any time.I have some general suggestions which you may consider if found suitable.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is a result of the pancreatic gland in our body either produces little or no insulin or the body has developed resistance to insulin. In both cases, the body cells do not receive the glucose needed for production of energy because insulin is essential for glucose to enter the cells. This results in the blood sugar levels to increase beyond acceptable levels, though your body cells are starved for glucose. This condition is very bad for our well being and over long term may result in severe complications.
Controlling blood sugar levels is a tough job but it is not impossible if you realize that every thing is in your own hands. This is so,because though you may get good advise from doctors and dieticians,it is ultimately Y OU that will have to take all the necessary steps to successfully control diabetes.I am giving certain general suggestions based on my personal experience which you may consider and adopt based on your personal choice.
Diet plays a very important role in managing diabetes. You should reduce intake of foods that are rich in carbohydrates like sweets, rice, wheat, other grains ,potato, beet and other root vegetables rich in starch. You should eat more of vegetables, sprouts, greens and salads that give you lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Each meal you take should be smaller but you may have 5 or 6 meals instead 3 meals a day.
Exercise is very important to control diabetes. Daily brisk walking or jogging for at least 40 to 60 minutes is ideal. Such exercise will consume lots of energy and sugar levels come down accordingly.
Mental stress aggravates diabetes. Lead a stress free life by adopting relaxation techniques like music meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.
Comply with the doctor's advise scrupulously and you should follow 100% compliance as far as medication is concerned.
Please remember that the most important person in managing your diabetes is Y O U.
Very rarely only blood sugar levels shoot up so fast. hat I feel is that either your intakes would have been wrong for diabetics or the drug that you inhale may have components like cortisone which increase blood sugar level fast. If first alone is true, you can easily bring down the levels soon. If both or second one are true its a bit tricky. As you can appreciate, without reducing/discontinuing the sugar hiking medicine bringing down sugar level is difficult.
TAKING MEDICINES ALONE WILL NOT BRING DOWN BLOOD SUGAR ALWAYS. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOOD HABITS & LIFE STYLE ALSO TEMPORARILY TILL CURE.
Diabetes is a fundamental disorder. It is comparable with low voltage in an electric circuit. In both cases all connected subsystems will under-perform and will fail in due course. It will affect SEX life also, if diab is not contained. Diab impairs the glucose (SUGAR) & oxygen supply to ALL CELLS of the patient. You cannot compensate the resultant weakness with liquor, food or medicines.
A DIABETES PATIENT (also known as A DIABETIC) need NOT starve. PROPER or APPROPRIATE food can be eaten EVEN FULL STOMACH THRICE DAILY! Try to understand diabetes & conquer it.
While following the Long-wheat diet explained in the article referred below, non-vegetarians can have MEAT/FISH/EGG in moderate quantities as side-dishes/curries.
I was diabetic from 2006; but NOT diabetic from 2009. I studied Diabetes thoroughly, because it was to solve MY problem.
