My doubt is, whether I have to keep the insulin (pen/catridge) inside the fridge or in room temperature only. Also is it recommended to change the needle everytime when we inject insulin or how many times can I use one needle. Anybody can clear my "simple" doubt..??

INSULIN
Dear Sivagovind,
Insulin cartridge or bottle when in use can be kept at room temperature however for long time storage it is required to be kept in low temp in the fridge. used insulin cartridge or bottle can be kept in room temperature for 28 days. As far as the needle is concerned, manufacturer advised to use a fresh needle every time you take the shot. But it is costly affairs. I use a single needle till I don't get pain, the moment it hurts I change to a new needle. That's on average I use 2 needles per cartridge.
Hope this answers well of your query.
Exactly Sir..!!. It very much cleared my doubt. Thank you very much for the informations.
According to me I am using four needles per month. The Insulin Pen should be stored vertically in tge Fridge and should take out one hour before use to bring it to normal temperature.
Thank you sir.
Keep insulin in butter compartment, as per mu doctor for long storage. The vial in use can be kept at room temp.
I use the cartridge in the fridge in the regular (not deep freezer) compartment.
The needle and the cartridge ( along with the pen in which it is fitted ) at room temperature as I need to travel frequently.
The needle I keep till i get pain using. I keep alcohol ( denatured spirit ) to clean the needle every time I use.
My usage is 1 needle per every 2 cartridge and change the needle if I find colouring or stain appears at the base of the needle.
Hope this helps.
I normally keep insulin cartidge in the butter compartment of the fridge and the pen and the cartidge in use at room temprature. I change the needle when i feel insertion to be little painful that is about every 3 or 4 days I change the needle. If some one uses alchohal schwab to clean the needle after every use is certainly more hygenic but on regular use specially while travelling is not quite practicle.
Thank you all for your responses posted for me. Once again thanks.
One of difference between human beings and animals the later do not have the attitude to help. It could be done only by great minds.
Thank u all
According to the manual it can be kept at room temperature. But as our country is a tropical with varying temperatures, room temperature many a time may ,more so in northern part ,exceed 30 degrees, which is not good. Hence in my opinion it is better to keep it in fridge and take it out half an hour earlier so that it comes to room temperature which should be less than 30 degree centigrade.
It is better to keep insulin cartridges inside a fridge. However do not keep in freezer. You can use the pin for four times. Then change the pin.
Store the cartridges in the fridge and one at the room temperature which is in use. Change the needle when you feel pain while administering.
Please read the instruction on the carton and read carefully the instruction sheet which comes with it to confirm during usage you may store at room temperature when you are travelling and have no access to fridge.
My Doc said I may use the needle 7-8 times. I think I used a bit more. Then the needle gets blunt and will not get inside the vial easily. This is the signal to take out new one.
