I was in a very acute emotionally distressing state, and then played pickelball . I’m 2 years into a PD Dx, only on rasagiline and very close to finding my B1 sweet spot, between 100-200 mg. Oral B1. My movement has been improved with B1 after 7 weeks! While going for a ball in pickelball, both my knees just locked, and I fell forward. It was my 1st fall, and I was extremely lucky to come out with only a few scraps on cement! Does high stress situations actually CAUSE such unusual and exasperated PD symptoms? Or, possibly am I on a little too high of B1 therapy? Or maybe I should start taking C/l while playing pickelball? SCARY!
High stress and 1st freezing episode? - Cure Parkinson's
High stress and 1st freezing episode?
Your experience is going to be unique to you. I don’t think that B1 has anything to do with freezing. I freeze from my meds (c/l), but I think many others freeze off their meds. Stress may trigger it. Too many unknowns to give you advice, IMO.
In my experience, stress definitely interferes with physical performance. The Parkinson's diagnosis can psych us out - And cause a crippling lack of confidence. I used to get leg shakes after climbing up to a high place as I am wont to do. Made it really hard to get down! That problem has stopped happening because I've regained confidence in my abilities.
My PwP has lost a lot of confidence in the two years since he was diagnosed. It breaks my heart to see him feel this way. May I ask how you regained confidence in your abilities?
9 years since diagnosis. I cannot say it is easy but I manage.
To control the leg shakes I started doing deep breathing when it came up, and eventually the habit released without much thought on my part.
I have a one hour long hike routine that I try to do daily. So often getting started is really hard - it seems like re-learning how to walk. But by the end of the hour the nerve impulses seem to be working and I'm pretty close to walking normally.
My advice is to get started with whatever kind of exercise that he likes to do, or used to like, and build on that.
This seems like a natural reaction to a high action moment. Freezing in PD feels much different in my experience. It’s more related to the initial move. Once you get going it’s fine. The fact that you were running already makes me think that perhaps this is not the typical freezer situation. Also as others have said the freezing happens after long years of CL use.
May I ask how did you get diagnosed?
Sorry to briefly change the subject or mention something off topic, but your very first sentence could well serve as the opening sentence of a novel. Or the tagline of an advert for a new TV series.
I would go with what park bear and mishod say on this one.
I fall over constantly when playing tennis and now virtually stand stationary at net. My mind just can’t process quickly enough where to move to. I have not been able to find anything that helps - other than drinking tons of water. No neuro can help me.
I’ve recently started HRT which I hope might help.
I was thinking of taking up pickle ball but don’t want to fall on the hard wooden floor.
