Advice on B1 with or without B6 & B12

Hi, I have been on B1 HCL for quite a while now.. and I think Dr. C preffered we not take additional supplements. HOWEVER, I also think I have read that B6 and B12 are very important supplements. B12 is believed to stop the progression of pd.

Does anyone have an suggestions?

Maybe Dr. C wanted to isolate the effectiveness of B-1, but you're right -- we should not let ourselves become deficient in B6 and especially B12. I see no reason to stop other supplements. It's not like they're contraindicated for each other.

Thanks. Do you have any idea on how to add B6 when you cant take it near CL? I take it starting it at 8a,m and I take CL every 3 hours?

I don't know for sure. I pulled this link out of my file that I read long time ago. (The initials PLP in this link means B6.) I think the problem is with carbidopa and B6. Carbidopa depletes B6, but B6 depletes levodopa . Do you know or can you find out if you're low on B6?

I don't know if there's a conflict between Sinemet and B12, I would doubt there is, but we have to be careful not to become deficient in B12.

If you take C/L every 3 hours, it would be hard to separate them unless you can take B6 in the middle of the night when you get up to P.

Park_Bear posted on B6. As long as you take it at least 2 hours away from C/L, there is no problem. My husband takes a B-complex with only 7.5MG of B6, and he takes it 2 hours away from his bed time 1/2 Sinemet. He only takes 1/2 Sinemet before bed, rest of the day he takes MP with 1/2 a pill of carbidopa. His Vanderbilt MDS prescribed just carbidopa to help MP cross BBB. He is an amazing, sharp, and "out of the box" doctor.

Just to be a bit picky and nerdy, carbidopa doesn't "help MP cross the blood brain barrier". It prevents the levadopa in MP being metabolised elsewhere in the body, and so leaves it available to cross the blood brain barrier. Sinemet is just levadopa and carbidopa combined in fixed proportions.

Adding carbidopa allows the dose of levadopa to be reduced to about 1/5th the level otherwise needed, which reduces the potential side effects of levadopa such as nausea. Chemically the levadopa in sinemet is identical to the levadopa in MP, and pretty obviously the carbidopa is chemically identical. Packers, fillers, and other plant content in MP are of course different potentially

I believe Dr. C wanted people to stop other supplements initially to determine the effectiveness and/or proper dose of B1. I don't think it was intended as never again. For really thorough information on B6 and c/l go to Park_Bear's profile. He has posted extensively on this.
