PD and migraines and B2

Hello everyone !

I have PD since 2015, and I’d like to investigate the relationship with my migraines and more particularly the response to vitamin B2.

You may know if you are / know a migraine sufferer that high dose riboflavin (vitamin B2) prevents migraines attacks.

To cut a long story short, coenzyme forms of vitamin B2 and vitamin B1 are important to say the least in the mitochondrial operations.

Nevertheless, while both Parkinson’s and migraines are associated with mitochondria dysfunctions, (and also with glial neuro-inflammation) you don’t encounter any crossing between scientific discussions involving B1, B2, migraines and PD. Nor did I ever see anything on PD and B2. The only sign is the experience of Dr Constantini with B1 as a treatment for migraines (and cluster headaches too).

In my personal case, I have migraines since my childhood and had a dramatic response to B2. Hence I am what the medical and scientific world calls a “responder” and I probably carry the DNA code (in the mitochondria DNA) that is known to be associated with a good response to B2.

Strangely, before I got diagnosed with PD, I had noticed that intense exercise, ie weight-lifting (I am a thin pale woman) or skiing above 3000 meters altitude would prevent my migraines attacks (temporarily). I also have a good experience with exercising on my PD symptoms. Exercises are also reported to have an effect in PD as you know, but also in migraine prevention (as much as treatment with ani-epileptic drugs!).

Likewise, though less dramatic, I am a responder to B1.

So as they say, I am curious and want to know more, since having been diagnosed at the age of 45, I am a YOPD, but so far with no cause identified.

My question is: any migraines? Any trial with B2 among the PD fellows?

not really- I gave up caffeine once and ate so healthily I had so few toxins and although my body showed some symptoms no pain at all. I read somewhere about a link with PD and migraine but haven’t followed it up. Mine were often very hormone related- get the odd stress one these days not much

I’m in UK

Thank you. Originally I thought it was irrelevant because I was taking B2 for 3-4 years when I got diagnosed with PD, but eventually, considering PD may have started even before, it is relevant. I will re-read this properly.
