I noticed some edema in my foot and ankles when first trying medications for PD. I tried Sinemet but also tried amantadine and ropinerole. I never knew which medication caused the edema. Now I'm on Rytary alone and edema is back. I wore shorts today and both the neuro and my wife noticed swollen legs. No pain or other problems from the edema but I'm wondering if this is common and if it will go away. The neuro asked whether I was using a lot of salt. The answer is no, I don't add salt to anything and I don't have elevated blood pressure. Folate, T4, TSH and B12 are all within normal limits. Any ideas?
TIA,
kevin

Yes, I had edema when I first started taking C/L and pramipexole, Which was four years ago. They had me undergo a scan of my circulatory system to rule out cardiovascular disease, of which I had none. The symptoms have since diminished to where I no longer notice any swelling.
I have edema when I take amantadine. It also gives my legs a patchy, mottled look in addition to the swelling. Ropinerole makes me nauseous, and I take Zofran to counter that. I also need Zofran to handle carbidopa/levadopa.
I am not convinced that any of these medications are all that helpful. None of them address my tremors which are progressing, albeit slowly. I am depending more on exercise to slow down this disease.
My neuro was not overly concerned about the edema in my legs with amantadine.
