I don't at times. But mostly it is the meds that keep me going. Carbidopa-levodopa controls my symptoms very well. When my symptoms are controlled then my spirits are up. If my meds fell then i am in so much pain i just moan and groan and a lot of times i cry like a baby. If your up all the time when you crash you crash hard but if you allow yourself to ride the waves you will find your head above the water more than below. So don't fight your emotions just roll with the punches. Everyone has ups and downs not just people with Parkinson's.

My husband gets really down whenever he is hurting. He's on disability now and is able to rest more often and it really helps. I know this doesn't help much if you do not have the opportunity to rest at will.

Keep moving during every day, with fast walking episodes 4 x week.

Limit social events to 3-4 hrs in which you are at your best. Dress and groom sharply for these events. Put your best foot forward. When you feel your sponteniety begin to wane, quietly exit stage right. This way you can enjoy successful social occasions.

Sleep in a little later to get that feeling of rain having drenched through your body. I sometimes take Melatonin to help doze off. Exercise earlier in the day helps. Cool bedroom (75F) with only a sheet for cover works for me.

Take enough Meralax and Colase to rid yourself of worry about constipation. Helps you feel, actually be "normal." Daily exercise also helps with this.

As for me, also get yourself a great, smart, devoted dog...that you have to take care of. One that keeps you on her schedule.

These are easy things you can do yourself to keep the PD shade at bay.

Adopt the motto, "I have PD, but PD does not have me!"

If you listen to what my neurologist told me, "You will become more and more rigid until you become so rigid you cannot move. Then you will become bedridden and will die of pneumonia or some other chest infection!"

With a diagnosis like that, who stands a chance of living more than a few years? That was in 1992. After 2 years I decided to beat this terrible affliction, so I did everything I could to fight it. I came off the levodopa medication and went onto an MAOb inhibitor. I also stopped going to the gym for 90 minutes a day and started doing fast walking, for only 20 minutes every second day, slowly building up to 60 minutes every second day over a period of six months.

After eight years of that, together with adopting a 'Positive' attitude, managing my 'Stress Levels', learning how to consciously control my movements and keeping my mind active with Su Doku puzzles and trying to learn a new language, I managed to come off all Pd drugs in 2002 and have lived a normal life ever since.
