do a search on LSVT in your area for Parkinson's big and loud.
The big is large steps as fast as you are able (not everyone can walk fast). Many insurances cover part of the costs. The loud is for speech to improve voice and also swallowing.
Vous viendriez à Reims, en France ? Le Champagne ne peut pas être mauvais pour Parkinson 😉😊 . J ai du mal à persuader certains de mes amis qu'il faut se bouger.
Hi John, greetings from Paris in France. I'll take you up on that one. My early morning (every morning) brisk walk of 90 minutes has become the core foundation of my natural therapy arsenal in fighting PD progress. I've achieved speeds of 6.7 kilometers per hour (not every day) but I'm sure I could do better with the appropriate coaching.
It IS a long way!! As far as a modern way to connect, I’m not sure what would be best. I’ve done zoom calls but never been a host. I have email, a “smart” phone, a computer.
Happy to host a zoom call with you instructing us John! I have been a zoom host since way before covid, and have my own zoom account. We just have to wait until I am a little more settled with a new place to live. August or September?
hi John, I am enjoying your book! I am doing the work as you recommend, but I have so many questions about various issues that seem unique to my *flavor* of PD. Would be great to chat with you in person or online. I am 56. Symptoms started about 8 years ago. Best Regards, Brian Butler; New Zealand.
Dear Mr. JOHN PEPPER, my name is Marcelo Elias, codename 2Ma3WbMc, as a member of our support group, where I discovered your name and data from your parkinsonian trajectory, highlighting fast walking to stop PD. Please, I would like to know all the details of how this exercise should be done, including other pertinent tips. I've had PD for about 3 years, and I'm not seeing much improvement with PROLOPA. Sorry for the inconvenience
That's a nice offer, John. If it fits into a possible schedule, you are welcome to join us in the southern Vosges (northeast France) .Possibly in combination with Pivouanne in Reims. I plan to organize a Parkinson's week in October, where fast walking can be applied as a main theme in practice. It is possible to accommodate around 8 participants. We are located in a beautiful region with ideal roads for practicing and also suitable for walkers. Let me know if you are interested and your plans have taken shape. I am still somewhat flexible with the dates. It would be wonderful to meet each other and discuss our perspectives over a good meal and a glass of wine!
Hi Gallaktika, Although it may be too difficult for John to make the trip to Europe, I still want to proceed with the original plan of organizing an informal PD week, with the aim of creating a safe and supportive environment where we can exchange experiences and understand and support each other. I will keep you and other interested members informed when there is a concrete program, but I am open to ideas for any further planning together.
Your contribution could have been how a practical lesson (preferably 3) during that week for PWP might look, where we could potentially also attract participants from the region. What could be better than being instructed and inspired by the master himself! Additionally, you have amassed a wealth of experience in other PD areas as well, which you might have shared with us. I will try to take on the fast walking instruction myself, but that remains a substitute. Understandably, John, a trip to Europe is too much, considering your physical condition. Take care!
I’m not sure if this question was meant for me or not, but I cannot come to South Africa. I wold love to come to Italy, or France but I’m not able to go there either.
I am unable to travel anywhere anymore. I am stuck here at home with all m my memories and my family. I am very happy and hope I have been of some help to others.
Not a bad place to be stuck! You are a lucky one! Enjoy what remains of your good long life "stuck" at home with your family and memories! Thank you for your generous contributions to the Parkinson's "Club", you have been a very inspiring and motivational for many of us!
That you have always dealt with human people and not with laboratory mice as they do in many scientific research.
Are they observing laboratory mice to find a cure for humans? What on earth should they find out if they distance themselves so much from sick people.
In this video we see you, JP, supervising a person with parkinson's with great attention and it is a fantastic image of dedication and work together against the disease. This is, in my opinion, an ideal scene to aim for in the relationship between PwP caregiver and Neurologist who should work as a team against the disease.
Thank you for your kindness. No matter how much I will it to swing, my left hand/arm simply does not obey my will - fine-motor movement up the spout...
If I asked you to show me how far you can lift your left arm up in front of you, are you telling me that you are totally unable to lift that arm at all?
Sorry to say I have not read your book (on my list), but can you difine fast walking and any differences between walking, jogging and running. Also is it the cadence or is it about heart rate? I am in the prodromal phase and train daily using a zone 2 method - heart rate target is 120 - 125 with a max rate of 180 or higher (have not tested lately)
