Magnesium for muscle pain and weakness, constipation?
Yes, I take 500 mg Magnesium each night, otherwise I get really severe leg cramps. Yes! it does help.
Diagnosed with PD 2 and a half years ago, aged 48.
I don't notice it helps with the pain and weakness, but it works like a charm with constipation.
I find magnesium eases my muscle cramps.
Yes, I take a great product called 'Magtein' (magnesium l-threonate) which is purported to "provide more magnesium to the brain than other forms of magnesium". It rescued me from frequent cramping in lower legs/calves, and feet - now no longer a problem.
Could you please tell me how much you take and what time of day. My husband takes it also, bit still has leg cramps - bad ones- at night. Thank you.
I stagger the recommended 3 capsules p/day (caps are 667mg ea. = 2000mg/2gms total p/day) usually morning, afternoon, and finally shortly before bed (as recommended). Magtein can be taken either with meals or between meals.
I also take a comprehensive mineral supplement since we tend to fall short on minerals in general as we age.
I think magnesium deters muscle tightness and therefore rigidity. It also aids good sleep. I wouldn't be without it! I've been taking it for five years.
Thank you all for your reply's to me. When do you take it? How much and what kind? I read in the book THE MAGNESIUM SOLUTION that Magnesium Taurate is the most bio-available and at night is best? I talked to people at Life Extension and they said Magnesium L Threonate isn't the right kind for muscle tightness and constipation. That it was for memory and cognitive function. I never knew that magnesium helped with those problems. I don't think it was mentioned at all in the book I read. We have been trying both types and some in AM and more at night. It doesn't seem to be helping anymore. Maybe we should up the dosage. People at Life Extension said that the only effect of an over dose would be diarrhea. Ha as if that would be a problem.
Magnesium citrate is god enough. I can't take the full 400 mg unless it is with a meal because otherwise things would "flow through me". For this reason, I do not take it with other supplements because I want them to absorb instead of passing right through. Even with 2 pills being the 400 mg, they are large, so I crush them with my teeth before swallowing with a drink. Same thing with calcium pills. I actually just take an antiacid for calcium (like Tums) and can see my finger nails get thicker after a month or two.
Magnesium before sleep help against leg cramph and constipaion
This is very encouraging. Are there any side effects or precautions we need to be aware of?
I take Mag07 for constipation and it always works. Hopethis helps
I gave my father who has Parkinson and sever orthostatic hypotention ( low BP on standing), the magnesium helped with the constipation but make the low BP worse. read up on all the natural supplements.
