My long-term constipation was severe, including one trip to hospital. I soon learned that by taking 4g daily of thiamine hcl that within one week my bowel movement days became normal with normal consistency
I have had constipation longer than I have had Pd, which is now 55 years. I tried many different types of medication for it, but always got to a point where that medication stopped working, (No pun intended). I had to change my medication until it also stopped working.
Recently I found that the sphincter in the rectum was not relaxing and even though I needed to have a bowel motion it was physically not possible to pass the stool. Then I tried physically to get the sphincter to relax, and was able to do so, with immediate results. But the problem was that I eroded the skin around the anus and had to use something to lubricate my fingers, which I covered with toilet paper. That worked well.
Recently I came across Aloe Ferox, which I think is a natural diuretic. That works like magic and I only have to take it occasionally. I also try to remember to drink more water. it helps.
This is very interesting. I didn't know the part about the bowl being impacted causing the dopmine to not be absorbed quickly.
My husband was constipated. A CT scan showed his bowl was very full. He started taking Linzess which has brought about daily bowl movements.Right around the same time, he was switched to Rytary instead of Sinemet. He is better in many ways.
Miralax hadn't been doing the trick. Previously enema's helped some.
