I use it from time to time and it does have a positive effect. I wouldn’t say it’s a relaxant though.
Magnesium glycinate seems to have some benefit. I use a powdered drink form of the mineral combined with tart cherry, keeping the dose to 400 mg or less.
My wife experiences extremely painful leg cramp, which is associated with dystonia in her feet. She has tried various forms of magnesium, including tablets, gel and oil and none have given her any relief.
To counter that, I have read reports on a number of Parkinson’s community Facebook groups that testify to the effectiveness of magnesium for cramp and muscle stiffness. Sadly, my wife isn’t one of them.
try high dose vitamin B1 thiamine...500mg my husband suffered with awful muscle pains...all gone now and never come back..there is a group on here...
Thank you. Did you need a prescription for the High Dose B1 Thiamine?
Yes magnesium seemed to work for me - I noticed more cramps when I forgot to take my nightly tablet - 250mg from Holland and Barrett. It can give you the "runs" - reduce dose if it does. I started taking hot baths with epsom salts added (Mg sulphate) and so cut out the tablets as no longer needed. Helps with sleep too! Magnesium oil spray works quickly for the odd occasion when I get caught out by a bad cramp. Best!
I use this product by MagEnhance after reading posts by Kia. A combination of Magnesium Glycinate, Taurate and L-Threonate. These don't seem to cause the runs - at least for me!

I take 2 capsules before bed and it seems to help muscle stiffness.
I use the magnesium and dosage as SmokeyPurple with some success. I also started increase my water intake which gave me even more relief.
Husband takes CBD oil for pain and to loosen up joints/muscles. Works for him. I've tried for my arthritis and helps a little; works better if I take an aspirin as well.
I’m interested in the responses to this question also. I haven’t taken any magnesium supplement so far. I’m confused because there are just so many types or combinations: magnesium glycinate, magnesium citrate, magnesium sulphate, magnesium oxide, magnesium malate, L-Threonate ... which is best? Plus I have a terrible time swallowing pills. Someone here mentioned a liquid form? How is that working for you?
I DO use magnesium oil when I feel a cramp or Charley horse coming on and I swear by that.
bass,
Go directly to mag oil (MO) first because that will tell you right away if any oral form can do anything for you because MO reaches the highest tissue levels quickest and more so because to reach those kind of local tissue levels with an oral magnesium supplement will probably include diarrhea and would be very unhealthy for you. Btw, I believe we have had this conversation before about two years ago. Here is a $10 product which will be an inexpensive way for you to find out if it does anything for your stiff muscles. I highly recommend you read some of the reviews to find out what else you can use it for as there are many many other potential uses for MO. Oh, and don't forget to come back and let us know how you do. Good luck!

Thank you my good friend Art . I remember the conversation and i have used the topical mag oil spray but did not get a good result. It didn't help. I also tried adding it to the bath, which didn't hurt or help either. I think what I need is a good massage on a regular basis.
Thanks Art for your input on MO. Have been using it since past 3 months and could see the difference in muscle ache. Should it be used continuously like any other medication. Thanks.
Thank you for coming back and sharing your results! Hopefully others see your post and take advantage of MO whenever needed!
I generally only use it on an as needed basis, but daily is fine also as it contributes to your total magnesium intake because it is absorbed through the skin, but this way you put a concentrated amount right where it is needed.
