Are Buscopan or Mebeverine ok to take with Chrons/Colitis?

Hi my GP awhile ago prescribed Buscopan or Mebeveribe to take for bloating I’m waiting for a colonoscopy as I’ve got suspected IBD.

I wondered do either of these drugs make Chrons or Colitis worse at all? I noticed sometimes they make me feel abit worse. Thanks

hi. I was interested in the responses to your question. But I can’t see any responses! I found Mebeverine useless. My GP assured me it would help but in the end I stopped it and possibly felt a bit better!!

I saw the gastro consultant last week. My previous appointment being May 2022! She assumed I was feeling ok, even though I was calling her secretary on a weekly basis asking to be thought of if anyone cancelled their appointment!

Now she thinks I’ve got ulcerative colitis. She thought I’d be knocked by the possible diagnosis. I’m not. It might open the door to some useful meds. I just hope I don’t have to wait another 31 months for a diagnosis and prescription!

Hi there are you diagnosed yet at all? I’m waiting still in Edinburgh on the urgent list for a colonoscopy. I am hoping to get this in Jan or Feb but been told it will be a long wait even for urgent been on the list since Sept. I was taking the mebeverine but like you I’m not sure it’s helping either or if it’s making it worse. What symptoms do you have? Where are you?

I’m in Kent. Symptoms = diarrhoea, but not so bad as when I wasn’t being treated for Bile Acid Malapsorbtion. I do no2s 7 or 8 times daily. Ache throughout my abdomen. I say ache, but sometimes I can’t do anything due to the pain (not even get to the bathroom!) But also problems with tendons and eyes. I love food, but my gut hates it! No diagnosis yet. But it may have been under control due to rheumatoid arthritis drugs. I stopped these in January and since then… my guts have exploded!!

I also have psoriatic arthritis! Was originally diagnosed with RA initially. Chrons and IBD is very linked with arthritis. Have you asked for a colonoscopy? It’s the best way to diagnose IBD. I’m dreading it as I hate the thought of starving for the days before it and the prep sounds horrid! I’ve got loose stools every day, bloating, lower right stomach pain and cramping, very very bad smelly wind 😥 and severe exhaustion at times! Just feel so rubbish! When do you next see your Dr?

my last appointment was may 2022. I hope my next appointment will be soon. She suggested last time I have a test, this time she repeated herself. I hope a colonoscopy!

Did you ever have calprotectin stool tests and did they show high levels? I had one high one and one normal and also did the Qfit tests to see if any blood in stool they were normal but the high calprotectin got me on the colonoscopy list. Hope you get seen soon and can request to get a colonoscopy!
