Flare from hell

I've been on a flare for about a year. Just recently I lost weight. I would say about 15 lbs in the span of 3 months.

I've been trying to eat more but still losing weight. I just had my colonoscopy 2 months ago and have hiatal hernia and proctitis. My Gi didn't mention anything about the rest of my colon. I'm starting meselamine in 2 weeks.

I wanted to ask what do you guys usually eat to gain weight? And how long until you get some weight back?

It's worth mentioning that I have lots of anxiety which also makes me lose my appetite at times and occasional dizziness with head pressure.

Hi, sorry to hear about the flare they are the pits. It is actually pretty hard to put on weight until the flare is under control. But some things that have helped me in the past are things like bone broth, oatmeal and yogurt, sweet potato, eggs (at least 2 per day), steamed fish, chicken, broccoli, toast with tahini, toast with avocado (who cares about the stereotype), turkey, bananas. When the flare settles down then you can add stuff like aged cheese to bulk up. Wishing you health and a speedy recovery.

I forgot to mention I found slippery elm powder mixed with water at about 50 C before a meal really helpful and also black cumin seed oil. Hope that is helpful.

Yes I’ve heard a few times before about slippery elm im really leaning towards trying it.

And thank you for your advice. I’ve been snacking throughout the day and it seems to be working ok

Slippery elm has changed my life. I'm about 70 % better. 2 capsules 3 times a day on an empty stomach. Research it!

This is not the first time I’ve heard this.

Since I’m going to start medication soon. I will ask my Gi if it’s ok to take it.

Thank you

Most drs don't know about herbs, and are taught to dismiss them, so don't expect a positive response. When I told my GI I had discovered slippery elm, she said, Oh yes. Lots of my patients use that. When I asked why she had not told me, she said they prefer to use drugs. Good luck!

Yes I mentioned that to 3 different gi’s I’ve had over time. Cause I used to take a Chinese herd that would help me put into remission.

And they all just shrug it off.
