I’m to have a colonoscopy next week and are besides myself.. two years ago I had two bouts of food poisoning and was referred to have a colonoscopy I stupidly refused as I was ok no issues whatsoever after recovery… within 3 weeks I started with what I can only describe as a volcanic intense inflammation pain that’s on and off but mainly always there in the background.. I went to my doctors who gave me mebeverine which stopped my pain but found to keep it under control I’ve had to up my meds… in these last few years about three times I’ve had what I can only describe as a taught sensation with a slight domed swelling which when I press disappears and my tummy makes such gurgling noises and then I have to go to the toilet… I told my doctor and they can’t feel anything.. I know I’m prone to adhesions and this was first thought but this has only happen 3 times in the last two years .. I’ve seen no blood ever but my FIT test came back positive hence why I now have to have a colonoscopy.. I’m seeing there are right sided cancers and it’s not good so I’m worried sick and shake with worry.. I sometimes feel a tightness in my side if I twist.. I run a lot and when the burning pain is bad I can feel it each time my right foot hits the ground.. can anyone advice I know it’s only doctors and screening that will give me answers but I’m so so scared right now

Hi, sorry to hear you are having such a horrible time. It might help to go and see someone about your anxiety no reason why you shouldn't get emotional as well as physical support to get well. Wishing you health and peace.
hello I understand how scary your experience feels and I don’t have any answers for you all I can say from experience is everything feels a lot better when you know when you have answers from the tests stress makes everything worse and unfortunately when you are going through a difficult situation like yours it’s hard or impossible shake off I hope everything goes well for you 🤍
A positive FIT test can mean all sorts of things and in almost all cases it is not cancer. Having a colonoscopy is the only way that you will find out if you have some inflammation (which is likely from what you describe) and there are many meds that will alleviate your symptoms. You do need to stop thinking the worst! It could well be a mini flare and you have some IBS or if there is some inflammation right sided then the hospital will refer you back to gastroenterology who will suggest what you should be taking to help; they will give follow up appointments too. One bit of advice for the colonoscopy (I have had 3) is to have sedation and also to have a chaser drink (like Lucozade) when taking your prep drink as none of the preps taste nice! Good luck and please try to stay calm and lay off Dr Google (if that is where you have been looking).
