Post Colonoscopy Result - what could it be?

Hi all,

I posted previously about stomach issues I was experiencing. What I could only describe as flare ups - stomach pain, inflamed feeling and sometimes vomiting.

Had a stool test done and the calprotectin levels were 500+

I had my colonoscopy today and was so sure they’d say that I had very obvious inflammation and had crohns or colitis, but they found nothing. Doctor even went back to an area where I was feeling quite a lot of pain when doing the test. All looked normal.

They did take a few biopsies, which I have to wait to come back to know the results but everything is was fine.

I just know I need to push for more tests to get to the bottom of why I sometimes feel awful. I guess my question is what does this all mean? If I had crohns or colitis, would the colonoscopy had shown it?

What else could it be? Or what other tests should I push for?

I was so convinced that it was going to be Crohns, Colitis or worse, but now I’m not sure. Of course I’m happy the test was normal but unsure what to do next.

Thank you

Hi,Isn't it frustrating when you don't get an answer straight away and you're feeling rubbish! Wait for the biopsy results which might reveal something - usually a few weeks wait. Calprotectin does suggest inflammation so it could be in the small intestine where the scope camera cannot reach. They may do a pill cam which travels through your whole digestive system. Hope you get a diagnosis soon.

Thank you for your reply Valbaty54. It is soo frustrating. Especially as today I’ve woken up to an awful stomach ache again and definitely feels like another flare up!

I have read that having a colonoscopy can sometimes trigger a flare up but now I’m even more upset that nothing was seen in the colonoscopy. I am pretty sure it’s in the small bowel.

Guess I have to wait for the biopsy results and then push the GP for more test.

I can’t keep having days where I can’t get out of bed and am living on pain killers and needing a hot water bottle to cope! :(

Hello. I am waiting for my biopsy results after a colonoscopy. The test showed no polyps but inflammation at the rectum end of the colon. So they took samples there. Now, post colonoscopy I had no BMs for almost 2 weeks, then massive incredibly painful diarrhea. Terrible pain to poop, but no poop. So I am waiting. My mom had colitis and diverticulitis. I've had 1 or 2 mild diverticular attacks. I am so anxious. I almost can't control the diarrhea now, and am home bound. No biopsy results yet. What happened with yours, if I may ask?

Not what you're looking for?
