Colonoscopy showing no IBD

good morning all

I had my colonoscopy on Monday had polyp removed found internal haemorrhoids and they said where and tare what ever that mean, but no IBD, I don’t understand why my calprotectin levels are high, could an issue in the small intestine give high reading? I get a strange feeling in my chest and arms after eating I am not sure if it has anything to do with it or not.

Hi, Boxroad . Did they take any biopsies and did you get a sheet explaining what they did and found? If they did take biopsies wait until you get the results back. It can be frustrating not getting answers

I had my colonoscopy in July of this year and it came back normal as did the biopsies. My calprotectin levels have been elevated too but what is strange is that in April I became more ill. I had a CT scan which showed active chronic inflammation in my caecum and terminal ileum. The consultant said it looked very similar to Crohns. My previous colonoscopy in January 2020 showed ulcers in my terminal ileum but biopsies came back normal. I continue to have many unpleasant symptoms. I was diagnosed with IBS in 2009 but was having symptoms in 2007 and always thought that it was more than IBS.

I'm due to have a capsule endoscopy to examine my small bowel next week so I'm hoping it that shows something! Colonoscopies don't examine the small bowel just the terminal ileum bit. I have heard that a colonoscopy and the biopsies can be normal as the inflammation could be in the small bowel.

They took a polyp and sent it off, the sheet said internal haemorrhoids and where and tear nothing to explain to constant diarrhoea I keep getting tho, yes it is very frustrating and I find once test come back normal they tend to back off looking.

Might I also suggest you find out what they term as normal wear and tear, its not satisfactory in your situation given you are experiencing all this discomfort. Ask what they are going to do now and when this is likely to happen. You are right these people do just try and sign you off, however the reason you went in the first place has not gone away, keep on at them.
