Food intolerance

Hi, has anyone ever experienced virtual complete intolerance to most foods.

Most days start and end with bloating feel very tender. Cramps then diarrhoea.

I have had crohns for 23 years and this is a new experience apart from before I was diagnosed i was completely intolerant to any food for 2 months.

I stick to the FODMAP diet but even these food types are hard for me to tolerate.

10 - 15 mins after eating the symptoms start.

Thanks for any advice

Yes, I’m in my 4th year on Exclusive Elemental Nutrition after a lifetime of surviving on a Low FODMAP exclusion diet. My small intestine can no longer digest food. So I am prescribed lab produced predigested amino acids in Nutricia E028 Extra. This is not a Sip Feed (Ensure & Complan etc ranges) which do require digestion.

my version of this food intolerance/visceral hypersensitivity etc is due to what gastroenterology is calling Crohns-like small intestine failure caused by my underlying infant onset systemic lupus (+ the usual secondaries: sjogrens, vasculitis etc) & hypermobile Ehlers Danlos.

My husband has early onset Crohns, and has been prescribed Elemental Nutrition several times over the years, but never for more than a few months. Reading your post, I’m wondering if a spell resting your small intestine on Elemental Nutrition might help you too. But of course you need to talk to your consultant about the probs you’re experiencing. Have you ever been prescribed Elemental Nutrition?

Hope something in there helps ❤️🍀 Coco

I have similar problems. It’s really uncomfortable and frustrating, especially when restricting or following certain diets then still having unmanageable symptoms.

I have seen a private nutritionist who recommended I take digestive enzymes to help to digest my food. These do help, though I doubt they are right for every individual so I can’t tell you what’s best.

She also recommended to limit fluid Intake with meals so my stomach acid can do it’s job and break the food down before reaching the small intestine. Also eating slowly and taking deep breaths before and during meals.

This does help though it’s not a cure.

May be worth seeing a nutritionist and/or going back to the doctor to see if your treatment plan is working for you?

I understand that there’s no quick fix and sometimes it’s something much more complex than taking enzymes.

I really hope this improves soon and you find a way to manage your symptoms xx

Thank you so much for both your replies, it's like you have read my mind. I have been feeling like I wish I cud find something I could just drink that would give me the right nutrition so I don't have suffer the effects of food. I have also been thinking and researching for a while about taking something for a healthy gut.I have a virtual appointment next week with a specialist dietician so 🤞🤞 they can give me a bit of direction.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how I get on 👍👍
