Hi bedfordlodgers1, I've recently spoken to a dietitian due to been diagnosed with microscopic colitis, IBS and diverticulitis. I also suffered with horrendous flatulence. I was eating sugar free sweets throughout the day, sugar free biscuit's and drinking sugar free flavoured drinks. I thought I was doing the right thing with keeping to sugar free stuff, but the sweeteners in sugar free stuff sit in the stomach and ferment and turns to gas! Since stopping all sugar free things it's been a life changer for me. Plant based sweeteners are not so bad for the stomach, but I try to stay clear of any thing sugar free now. Hope this info helps.
