Little miss virus

On Sunday and Monday one of my colleagues was a absent, because she had a virus. On Tuesday she decided that she’s well enough to come to work, so when she came to work in the morning I did what any normal person would do, I greeted her and shook her hand .... not knowing that

1. She still didn’t get over the virus

2. It’s still in a contagious stage

Fast forward to Wednesday (Today) I’m sick with her virus and I’m having fevers of 39c, headaches and chills. word of advice to everyone... If you’re sick please don’t come to work, because you risk making everyone else sick as well. My immune system didn’t even stand a chance against it.

Not good. Unfortunately it not always easy for people to stay off work. We get such a hard time for going off sick. Im a nhs nurse and obviously in front line of illnesses, this is not taken into consideration. Also not everyone is paid sick leave.

You see the thing is we have 15 days of paid sick leave, and I know that she hasn’t used up any of them till Sunday and Monday (the days she got sick), so she could’ve just took another day off and we’d all be good. She even shook hands with a pregnant woman! 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's sounds like she thought she were better, but unfortunately wasn't.

I completely get how you feel though. Could you not speak to hr and get something set in place for sickness in the work place?

Something very similar happened to me in April. Bug went around work everyone came in with it. Of course I got it but it set off a chain reaction. I went from bug which caused shingles, also causing a chest infection and high alert for meningitis (luckily got away with that this time). Took a few months for me to be well again. Since then hr have agreed if anything is going around our work place and people turn up sick I'm allowed to work from home to prevent contamination.

Not sure if this is possible In Your line of work but defiantly think it's worth talking to your hr and even taking a few leaflets on the effects crohns and other auto immune diseases have on our immunity? Hopefully you will be able to come up with a plan?

Hope you feel better soon x
