Possible IBD

Hi guys, I’ve had some problems with my stomach since my early 20s (I’m 31 now) it’s only the last 4/5 months that I’ve been so ill it’s actually forced my GP to take me seriously i had an ultrasound that came back fine, blood test that showed high levels of inflammation and my stool test came back with calprotectin levels of 497. I’m having an MRI this Friday and a colonoscopy on the 17th July, compared to a few weeks ago I’m feeling loads better and I’m so frightened that they will fob me off and say everything is fine (obviously I don’t want to have an IBD but I’ve been so ill I need some sort of answers and medication to help me)

I also had pancreatitis in 2014 and had my gallbladder removed has anyone else had this and could it be linked to an IBD? As I’ve still been having the exact pains that landed me in hospital with pancreatitis.

I guess I’m just after people to talk to as I’m at my wits end with it all now x

Your FCP level of 497 certainly indicates some form of IBD. Gall bladder problems often occur with IBD, as does pancreatitis. You are being given the right tests to sort out your problems, and the fact that you are, even, having these tests indicates that your medics are not going to fob you off. When you get your results, you can always request a second opinion, if you are not happy, but I wouldn't go all guns blazing at the moment. Whatever you are diagnosed with, you will need to discuss and discover what you want to do about it, and this should involve you and your partner (If you have one). We are always here to offer additional suggestions, but you need to accept your diagnosis first, whatever it is. Good luck.

Hi, there are a few of us in the same situation as you, the waiting is horrible but it seems diagnosis does take some time. My calprotectin was greater than 600 but colonoscopy was clear, as were biopsies. I was really unwell jan-April but am a million times better now, and so am at the bottom of the list for the minute. Very grateful to feel better, very pleased with clear results so far, but as you say medication in place for next time is the ideal situation! Take care

Totally understand what you are saying, I think lots of us feel the same. I would assume as long as your calprotectin is high they would continue to look into where the inflammation is.... but I don’t know 🤷‍♀️
