Has any one been diagnosed with colitis or chrons with a symptom of lower pain and consirpation year ago I had a clear colonoscopy now had these pains for few months and no diarrhoea just consirpated and calprotection test came back at 127
Confused: Has any one been diagnosed... - Crohn's and Colit...
Confused
A result of 127 is not a positive result for Crohns. An abnormal calprotectin test result simply indicates that there is inflammation. There are several intestinal diseases and drugs (eg, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen) associated with low-grade intestinal inflammation with average calprotectin levels between 50 and 300 μg/mg. Values of 50-150 μg/mg are regularly seen in IBS, and this is why a result between these values often leads tio a diagnosis of IBS. However, only untreated IBD and certain food infections are associated with very high levels, with results of 500 to 600 μg/mg, and will also have pathology findings (ie from colonoscopy). It is normal to repeat the test with findings of slight elevation in a few weeks/months to rule out food infections.
Constipation and a calprotectin of 127 would indicate IBS.
Thanks I did ask the doctor if ibs was a cause of it and she said no cause don’t cause inflammation I’ve asked to do another test only cause I get consirpation and pelvic pain but only seems to flare up 1-2 weeks before period due so don’t have no loose stools she said that was high and she needs to referral me to gastro but I already had a colonoscopy a year ago and what I can remember I had these pains then so I’m very confused don’t really wanna go through another colonoscopy
