Constipation!

Hi, my son is 29 and being tested for possible IBD.

He has had two abnormal GGT AND ALT liver test results 2 months apart and also a positive Fecal Calprotectin test at 250.

He also has psoriasis, and spine problems / also autism and mental health problems .

Even when he is not constipated he looses bloody either into the bowl or in the stools including pale pink stools at times.

He had a flexible sigmoidoscopy that was born but his pains, cramping and horrendous fatigue are affecting his day to day life/work.

He does als I get quite explosive D to.

He has an appointment in 3 weeks to see a colorectal surgeon which we expect may be a waste of time! As usual but I'm concerned with his blood loss.

This has gone on now for over a year and he has been waiting 4 months to get a gastro referral app.

I'm going for a colonoscopy on Saturday to rule out cancer as i had breast cancer 8 years ago and sadly my dad died of renal cancer.

Any advice would be much appreciated as this is taking rather a long time with blood in stools and pain etc.

Thanks

I cannot help with the medical side of this even if I do have Crohn's myself as do not know enough about the test results you mention, however you mention the extreme fatigue, part may well be due to blood loss, has he had his Iron levels checked and B12 ? Also the other fatigue issue can be simple dehydration, loosing more fluid than you are getting in, especially in this warmer weather. I use Dioralyte (a sachet of basic oral electrolyte powders mixed in water) I take them when I am loosing watery stools. It might be worth you/him talking to the GP about the possible causes of the fatigue, that could be treated whilst awaiting the medical tests to be completed, rather than waiting longer to look at some of the basic issues.
