Anal manometry - can I be sedated?

I'm due to have an anal manometry test next Wednesday and am feeling really nervous about it now.

Does anyone know if I can ask to be sedated for this procedure? I cant find much information online about it - a lot of websites don't mention sedation at all but I have seen that as an option in a couple of places and on most websites about this test for children.

Thanks in advance!

hi, I wouldnt think sedation is required as you need to 'push' down so the pressure can be measured to see if the rectal muscles are working effectively. its not a painful procedure - just a little embarrassing, but the staff will do their best to put you at ease and support you throughout
