BECAUSE I CAN'T!
My nose does't come into it! Have tried hard. Is it worth me perserveering? Does it really help?

Umm I try to but I can't get used to it so I stick to breathing through my mouth.
I am the same and end up gasping for even more air if I try to maintain an "in through the nose" run.
I do a bit of both! Sometimes I just need to get air in anyway I can. I tend to brief the in through my nose when I am trying to regulate my breath again after a tough bit of running
I do what Ali does. Soon after I started running and was trying to follow the advice of Laura, I read on a running site that one really needs to breathe in and out through the mouth for the body to get enough oxygen. I say find your groove and do what works best for you. Gayle
Now that's one thing I haven't really thought about at all - and having read all those replies, I think maybe I'll just carry on not worrying about it! Thinking about my posture seems to be working for me, so I'll stick to that.
Just breath how you naturally breath
Thanks everyone. I guess we all enough to worry about without adding something else to the list!
As Mark909 says, breath how you naturally breath inhaling through the nose is supposed to warm the air etc which it does but actually a very small amount. I fyou are a mouth breather like myself stick to this, you have to find what works best for you. Everyones airways and breathing patterns or different.
Yup, stick with natural breathing - just read another article which actually states that breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth is wrong and actually makes it harder to get the oxygen you need
I agree with the above I spent so long in running attempts over the years gasping for air and then having to stop because I could hardly breathe after reading that the 'proper' way to do it was through your nose Now............I just do what comes naturally, which is much more comfortable
I worried about this - until I found that I had other things to worry about and my body was quite good at breathing all on its own Just do what comes naturally!
I never really think about it unless I get a stitch, then someone on here recommending breathing out as your left foot hits the ground- it really works!
I'm with Norni.
I have no idea? If I could I would use my ears as well..
1-9 Great comment!
Think about it, what do ill & breathless people do, but breath through their mouth, best way to get more oxygen into your lungs.
I try but end up doing both. So long as you keep breathing
I do try to as it seems to keep me calmer and allows me to focus mind of oh it hurts or I wanna stop
It's great when I'm not aware I 'm breathing !! I call it my "zoned out" state! Much the same as when I'm thinking of other things and suddenly realise I'm running!
If I start thinking about controlling my breathing that's when I get out of breath!
