I am 9 weeks in to recovering from a fractured femur. I am 57. I need to walk for exercise, but can't go out in case I slip. Would I be able to use a powerplate

I think you should ask your physio, constantinople. As far as I know powerplates can theoretically be used after fractures but it probably depends on the exact site of your break and how it was treated etc etc. Best to ask an expert! Another idea might be a treadmill?

Good luck with your continuing rehab - and maybe once you're fit enough you can do the C25K programme! There's lots of us here in your age-bracket, some post-injury too. :-)

Thank u. My friend also suggested a treadmill. Will investigate C25K programme when I am a bit fitter.

Cross-trainer or eliptical trainer might be better than a treadmill as the impact will be less - but, as Pearsey says, you physio should be able to advise. I'd have thought that some gentle resistance training might be helpful to strengthen the muscles before you get back into running.

Good luck, hope you have a speedy recovery :-)

Constatinople absolutely not! Far too soon for that. it sends shockwaves up through your body, and may make the fracture site unstable. Always check with your physio, if you have one, or GP before attempting Powerplate anyway, as other conditions can be aggravated by it too.

Yes, do that instead, but do get advice from your personal trainer-don't just go ahead. I know I sound bossy, but I am a retired Practice Nurse, and had a patient go on a Power Plate and re-fracture-not nice-wouldn't like that to happen to you. Treadmill is ok, as long as they supervise you and give you a slow, steady pace to undertake. One good thing is that most PT's have qualifications nowadays and know what they are doing! I used to attend ASPIRE in Stanmore before we moved and they were terrific-very knowledgeable. Hopefully you will get the same expert treatment, but if in doubt don't do it.

Good luck Constantinople :-)
