Please forgive my nonrunning post, but I wanted to write something about my weight loss journey.
In 2010, I made a decision to "better my life." It was kind of a vague goal, but I had really good intentions. I was fat, sick, and very unhappy. Y'all don't know this about me (but you soon will ;)) but I am a very goal oriented person. I like lists and agendas and programs. That's probably why I'm enjoying the C25K so much. So this became my list:
*Go back to school to get my degree
*Lose weight
*Get more active
School started in August of 2010. It was an interesting ride. I've worked in law enforcement since 2001. I started as a clerk in the Investigations department. I've worked my way into the forensics department. I'm currently an Evidence Room Custodian. I'm very excited because I may be given the opportunity to become an investigator myself. I'll have to go to the police academy, but I think I can handle it. I received my degree in sociology/criminal justice in May of 2012. The hard work was worth it, and I'm proud of my degree. First item checked off.
The lose weight was at first just a half hearted effort. I moved between starving and binging. Not helpful at all. I did manage to lose a few pounds, but it wasn't healthy at all. Then I received my wake up call. My dad died in February of 2011. He'd been sick for years. Dad was a diabetic with vascular problems. He'd lost both of his legs by the time he died, had a massive heart attack, had a stroke, and there was a possibility of his losing his left arm. The ironic part was he died getting ready to come home from the hospital. I knew I had to do something. I joined weight watchers, and I've lost 173lbs. I'm goal weight was 164lbs (I'm tall), and as of today I'm 162.5! (That was the weigh in information I promised in the title. Aren't you glad you've read this far? :))
Get more active! This is my favorite part, and that is what I'll be sharing with y'all. (If you'll have me, that is.) It's adventure time.

Very well done kimber!!!!! My mom passed away Nov. of 2010 and it was a huge wake-up call for me too. After some half-hearted efforts, we started eating healthier in our household (weight watchers as well) and we are down a combined 60 pounds.... seems measly compared to your achievement! You mentioned your Dad passing away at the hospital when he was getting ready to go home...my Mom was recovering from a heart attack and surgery and was scheduled to be released that morning. The Doctors came in, checked her out and gave the Ok. She collapsed minutes later with no blood pressure/no pulse. Long story short, they revived her, did open heart surgery and we spent a month in the hospital. She lived almost 6 more years but after watching a loved one suffer and pass with congestive heart failure, I decided it was time to do something now. I am so very proud of you and all of your accomplishments, I am positive you will be able to breeze through C25K! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us!! And doing a happy dance for you meeting your goal!!! Gayle
Kimberami you are an inspiration! So pleased that you shared that story with us. You are doing so well, and I know that your Dad is soooooo proud of his lovely daughter and grinning his head off at your achievements.
Yes-binge, starving etc. are not the way to go with dieting-takes a well balanced varied diet+exercise to achieve, and you've done it!
I have hope then :-). Not as much as you had to lose, but I have achieved 12lbs weight loss since starting the programme in September. Now three weeks post Graduation, and having had time out for the cough/cold doing the rounds I have restarted stepping stones, which I am enjoying. Have the stamina challenge on Monday, and will have to change the scenery from the sea side to the heath, which is hilly. Weight static at the mo-not surprising really. With son's wedding end of March I have a further, if it will come to pass, 2 stone to lose. I will be happy with a further 10kgs.
So happy you have met your goal, and beyond-be proud, be very proud :-).
So sorry to hear of your Mum Galye-CCF is not a pleasant cardiac disease to live with. She is at peace now.
