Well the whole reason for me doing C25K was that I could train with my ten-year-old X-country runner.
She had her first League competition of this year today (Sunday) on a windswept, rain lashed countryside hill in Oxfordshire. The car park was virtually underwater but we managed to get to the start along with a lot of other ten-years and under all desperately trying to keep warm and try and stay out of the rain.
There were many tears on the start line (which was delayed for 10 mins, which didn't help). Hands were numb, feet were cold but still they set off!
As she came past us on the first lap, I could see tears in her eyes and I felt for her, encouraging all that past that it was not now far to go they all gamely battled on.
Caught up with her at the finish, she was now very cold, wet muddy and just wanted to get out of wind, so back to the car trying to get wet stuff off, and undoing spikes which just didn't want to come off!!
On the drive home was expecting to here comments of I am not running ever again!!! but thankfully doesn't seem to have put her off!!
On reflection she was a little disappointed with her performance but just to finish was a massive achievement, if anyone else was there today or had loved ones running well done to you all.
WELL IF SHE CAN DO IT AFTER ALL THAT MAKES MY EFFORTS A LITTLE WEAK SO FAR!!!!!!!!!
