Not been here for a while....

It's been a hard few weeks. My body simply gave out. In hindsight I think I should have taken more notice of its complaining before it finally collpased in a big heap. Last week though I finally felt more able to put on my running gear and get out of the door.

Slow and easy, slow and easy. Last week I thought I would just try one 25min run, and see how I went. It was hard, but I completed and felt good. So today I headed out on a 28min run. I was unbelieveably slow. Having said that I did manage a 1 min sprint at the end. It's really reassuring to know that my fitness hasn't left me completely despite my speed being pathetic.

Wedensday I will be trying for my 1st 30min run in a few weeks. Oh and I'm filling out my application form for the British 10k next year.

Slow and steady, slow and steady. No more over training for me.

Slow and steady wins the race and the only people we are racing against is ourselves. Glad you are back and in full swing! I'm sure your pace is not near as pathetic as you think. Take it slow, don't overdo and you will be ready next year for that 10K! :-) Congrats on setting a long term goal and signing up!!! Gayle

Welcome back! Good idea to take it steady, you will soon build up again and probably be stronger than before. Keep going and keep posting!

Hi Anna, I was wondering how you were. Sorry to hear things have been tough. I think we're both in the same boat. I've got shin splints too, had them for 2 weeks before I realised, I feel a bit silly for having run with them but heigh-ho! Another week to go before I can run again. To add to my woes I've got an awful cold today so will be languishing on the couch. I've been doing some swimming and static bike (plus of course shin splint exercises) but it's just not the same as running!

Good to hear you're on the mend and that you're getting out for runs again. Enjoy yourself, and be gentle on yourself while you recover.

Hope your cold feels better soon. Take it easy and give yourself the time you need.

It's hard to know when to stop and when you can keep going. I'm thinking about taking two weeks off from running to get rid of this niggly calf. I'm going to have to do SOME sort of exercise or I'll lose fitness and go mad with stress so it will be hubby's exercise bike and the swimming pool for me I reckon, at least till next week (I'm on half term hols so can't use the school fitness suite) when I can get back on the rower and elliptical again.

I know what you mean about going mad. I think my family were very glad when I finally went out. Apparently I wasn't great to live with when not exercising, lol.

Poor you, Carole. Sounds like the saga of my shin splints-which-I-didn't-realise-were-shin-splints. I still get the worrying feeling that if I pause for too long with my exercise regimen that I just won't get going again - especially with running.

Hope you manage to get a balance of exercise and resting that calf, and that it soon feels better. There seems to be a lot of injury around us C25k-ers at the moment!!!

Soozz, I've been Googling shin splints and it could well be that! So, definitely getting in the pool tomorrow morning. I ran nine miles last night so am due a rest day today...lane swimming for me then. Let's see if I can do the mile! 66-67 lengths.

It'll have to be hubby's exercise bike on Thursday! I hate that dratted thing but always feel better once I've done my half hour...whereas I love swimming!

Hey, Anna, how's it going? My shin splints are still being troublesome and I've taken the painful decision not to run for 4 weeks after resting for 2 with little improvement. Are yours OK now? I'm busy doing loads of non impact exercise in the hope that I won't go backwards too much. The annoying thing is they don't even hurt really only twinge now and then, they are just there are I can't ignore them. hope you are all better now!

It's going semi well. My shins feel good now and I'm finally cracking those pesky hills. My issue is motivation. I've manged to get out twice this week but this morning when I had lots of time I couldn't face it. Mind you I've also just started taking iron supplements again as I wondered if that might be the issue. Fingers crossed by tomorrow I'm starting to feel like a real person again. Truth is I feel great when I'm running but shocking the rest of the time. We shall see.
