My own fault

Did first run of the week in the rain. Got too hot with my weather proof jacket on so I took it off and finished 5k . I then decided as I was already soaked to the skin I'd take the dog out before my usual bath. I have had a bad cold ever since and have missed two runs, so disappointed with myself, Should I have kept my jacket on?

Poor you! Hope you get over it soon x

But I am a firm believer that you don't get colds through getting cold or wet! I would have had a cold for about a quarter of my life if that was the case! I cannot stand getting too warm so once I warm up I always take my showerproof jacket off and tie it round my waist.

Get plenty of vit c to help get over this one and as a preventative against falling prey to the cold germs in future perhaps get echinacea drops (from health food shop). I also read that most colds are spread on hands aswell as from being near people who sneeze etc, I have got into the habit of washing my hands a lot in the day especially (my job means I meet lots of members of the public each day).

Agree with everything Deryn has just said – great advice! I also can't stand to be too warm and am always trying to get my jacket or fleece off whilst trying to keep running at the same time - sure I'm going to take a tumble one day if I keep doing this!. It's funny to be running past other people, who are out walking in their winter coats, and I'm in my shirtsleeves but needs must!

At our house we're quite keen on the Vitamin C and Zinc combination from Holland and Barretts. Seem to lessen the length of any cold if you start taking them straightaway.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you both for your advice, it makes me feel better to know it was something I'd hadnt done. Probably caught it from work as I deal with a lot of lorry drivers and some are not too clean. I have some vitamin c, will make sure I take it every day. You made me laugh daystogtoo, I too take off my jacket whilst running. The running bug certainly gets to you, so much so you don't want to stop ha ha. Well I'm feeling much better today and I'm going for a run tomorrow, if I can't make the 5k I'll just do what I can. Thanks you guys x
