I ran this morning again. W9R2. I like this running lark, apart from the long slow hill at the beginning of the run I find it quite relaxing (looking back on it, not doing it, or maybe...).
So anyway, I did 4.5K on Tuesday and mapped a route taking in the next gate round on he aerodrome section to increase the distance a little bit. It should have taken the run up to 4.8K. I set out when daughter left for school, we walked down the hill together and I had Laura's music on the warm up. Left each other at the bottom of our road and I continued down. I was about all the way through You and Judy when I decided I didn't need it so loud so started fiddling with the volume and managed to reset it back to the beginning of the podcast. Oops! Well I didn't want to do extra warm up as that would affect the total distance getting back to the start point of my route. So I did a minute or so until I got to a particular road then started running.
The first 6 or 7 minutes all uphill were a killer again and when Laura told me I'd done 5 minutes I corrected her and said I'd done closer to 10, at 10 minutes I told her I was almost halfway and just kept back chatting her all the way round.
Now the nasty bit of this route is a couple of road crossings on the steep downhill part on the final leg as the pavement runs out on my side of the road and there's a bend, so either take your life in your hands crossing over then back or take your life in your hands running along the road. So I was quite pleased to notice a footpath on the right which I've never noticed before driving along the road. I took it, not knowing what was in store apart from it was heading in the right direction for home. Uphill again, muddy, slippy track, but not for too far before I took another path, left through the woods, then right and a few more left and rights (good thing I've got a pretty good sense of direction). At one point I almost got tangled up with a gorgeous bulldog puppy who's owner was so apologetic, but I didn't stop running.
Eventually got back on the track I was heading for, downhill all the way now, and kept on running. Through Laura saying 60 seconds to go, past her saying stop now, but only just as that was about 5 yards from the end of my route.
The big grin? When I got home and plotted the earlier start point of my route and the extra little detour through the woods, the total distance run was 5.01Km!!!!!
That 0.01Km is important!
