Wk4 run1 and it's chucking it down with rain

I'm due to start wk4 tonight but the weathers terrible. I was dreading the first run anyway but the idea of going out in horrible weather and with no idea of what route to do as I don't know how far i'll get in 5 minutes running I'm not sure I'm up for it. I'm definately going out to run so I'll got 50 minutes to mentally prepare.....

Use a website like run my route or good running guide to map out a route using a satellite map. Loads of options out there. Just google mapping a run and you'll see. Good luck :)

About to brave the downpours myself! Good luck!

you're braver than me, alliec. I was also due to start week 4 tonight but have postponed until tomorrow - can't face the terrors of the 5 minute run in this weather!!! Hope it went ok.

In case you're still waiting to go - I did Wk4 r1 and 2 earlier this week. I went a little bit further than in week 3 - not a huge amount (but then I run so s-l-o-w-l-y). I was able to use my usual route (which is a loop), go round a little further and then turn back. This weather is a pain! Yesterday for run 2 I waited until 3pm for the rain to stop (I usually run at 8am) and then "pinged" something in my foot on the way back. Still finished the run but it hurt last night! It's a lot better tonight and I'm hoping I'll be able to do run3 in a couple of days (rather than the week the doc suggested on the phone).

Other than that, the dreaded 5 minute runs came and went. In some ways the first is harder than the second for me. I'm elated that I've done it twice now without stopping. It's a great feeling - hope you manage it soon :-)

Hi guys, thanks for all your replies.

I braved the rain and donned my leggings and fleece jacket in the hope of repelling some of the rain, wrapped my iphone in cling film and zipped it in my pocket and off I went. (much to my husbands ammusment)

I had my concerns but OMG i did it :-) I picked a loop that I knew and added a bit of a dog leg in towards the end. I'll admit my choice of route was canny as it had a slight down hill most of the way round but what the hell I DID IT!!!

To anyone else who is having doubts like I did just do what everyone else on here says. Stick to it. You can do it then set off then slooow down.

Good luck everyone Xxxx

Yay! Well done - it's a great feeling isn't it! And so amazing to think of all these folks around the country astonishing their husbands (and wives/partners) and getting out there running!

well done!! how did you find running in the rain?? I get so hot that I still end up taking off my waterproof jacket & getting soaked. I have, however, started wearing a baseball cap if it is raining as this means I dont end up running with a cold wet face & you can also shield yourself a bit from the wind aswell.

running in the rain ~ a proper runner :)

To be honest I didn't notice the rain but it was jolly hot in my fleece jacket I shall definately be sticking to just my gillet in future
