Running for the first time tonight

Okay, after starting in Jan (well only went for the first run), I am starting C25K tonight. Am waiting till it gets dark as I am so embarrased to run. I am 11.5 stone, and flabby and I am sure people will laugh....Scared! Gonna stick to quiet roads

Stay safe (take phone etc) and good luck! The hardest bit is starting and then you'll have all the support of this forum :)

Did it, and survived! Even ran on the main road, and past people and no one batted an eyelid. Really want to stick with it now. On a high. Was tough but the music helped.

Well done on R1! You've done the hard bit now so keep at it and you'll be graduating in no time. Before you know it you'll be addicted!

hey nobody will laugh :)

and if you get a bit paranoid I know i did my first few runs whilst i ran past the take away on my second to last 60 second run i felt asolutley shattered and a man was just walking out with his bag of food (typical timing) i was paranoid he was looking at me thinking what does she look like (he probabyl wasnt!) but i just thought to myself at least im making an effort to improve my fitness.

good luck and hope you catch the running bug

Thanks all! BTW the take away comment, that would have been me a few weeks ago but no more! Really need encouragement and so glad I found this site.

I am a regular at the gym, and a regular swimmer but have never run - can't even run on a treadmill as I feel really unbalanced. So proper running it is and hopefully I can fit it in in my own time

Well done, you're braver than me. I've graduated and I still sneak out at the crack of dawn

Well done. I was about 12.5 stone when I started, I did up to week 7 in the gym, late in the evenings, when there was usually only one or two other gym members there. I went out in the dark for week 8 on. It took me weeks to get to the point where I would consider running anywhere I might see other people especially runners!

I am still only just under 11 stone but dont care who sees me now! i do parkruns and 10k races. I have even started doing speed sessions at a local athletics track on a Monday evening! I am no where near the fastest but I am not quite the slowest either and I am so busy concentrating on what I am doing I don't give a ..... what any spectators think!

Keep up the good work!

Well done! I have been running a few weeks now and nobody has laughed. If anything I have noticed they shout encouragement or things like "wish I was doing that" so keep at it!

Well done!

Your brave going out! I just stick to a treadmill at home.

:)

As you go on and run for longer you will be really pleased with yourself, and you should be! I remember being really happy when I managed 5 minutes!
