I have just completed my first run for week three. I am not too tired but my calf muscles are killing me. Anyone got any good ideas of how to stop them hurting so much.

Drink lots of water to wash out the toxins!

Stretch, stretch, stretch and keep going with the programme - it'll pass.

The title of your post caught my eye, thought a butcher had found his way on to the wrong forum :-P

Anyway, the pain in your calves could be due to needing new trainers or more appropriate trainers for your gait, or running on different terrain?

If its not the trainers, or the terrain, then its just muscles whinging cos you are asking them to do some unaccustomed work and this will get better, honest! Stretching for as long as you can spare (and a bit longer!) is key!

Hope this link helps

s-t-r-e-t-c-h before you go and longer s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s after and yes water before and after. My calves hurt (more when I walked) for the first 3 weeks.

OK graduate I will try and do the s--t--r--e--t--c--h--e--s before and after. More water needed too perhaps
