So, after a hugely successful week 5, I had a break from my running for a holiday in Cornwall (a lot of walking up and down steep hills so I wasn't worried about losing any fitness). The only trouble has been getting back to the runs in week 6. On monday I attempted w6r1, and felt confident because I'd had a week to rest my joints, and I knew I could manage that 20 minute run of week 5. Therefore, when that 5 minute warm up walk was finished, 5 minutes running before another walk seemed like a piece of cake. Despite Laura's sagely advice to pace myself, I whacked the speed up a bit and did it faster than I usually would. The same went for the 8 minute run.
It was then, in the last minute of the 8 minute middle run that it hit me, and I realised I should have paced myself. I staggered through the 3 minute walk trying to kid myself that I wasn't tired, ran 1 minute of the final 5 and promptly fell off the treadmill. Fortunately I recieved no injury except to my sense of hubris, but I think I'll give that run another go at a slower speed tomorrow! The bad run that day made me feel a lot less motivated to run today (when I should have done my usual run), I think I need to get back into the routine of running on 3 set days a week or I'm at serious risk of losing the habit, which would be a shame seeing as I've worked so hard to acheive this level of fitness.
So, wish me luck for tomorrow's run! And I'll try not to let my delusions of ultimate fitness allow me to fall off the treadmill again
